Hi everyone,
Sorry for my lack of communication over the past 2 weeks.
If your grade for the course is LE, this generally means that you did not pass the exam, but you did well enough that if you'd like to re-attempt a similar task, there is still a chance to pass the course. I'll e-mail you with further details about this opportunity in the coming week or so.
There are one or two students who still have an LE but are not to do with this, they're usually students who submitted an assignment late and we are still following that up.
Cheers,
Sim.
Hi everyone,
Your grades are still showing up as LE because I hadn't finished marking in time. Your grades will be released tomorrow (Monday at the latest).
(Aside from 2 students with late submissions or complicated situations.)
Regards,
Sim.
If your project is too big (you get an error message saying that it's not accepted because the file is too large). Please sync all your changes to gitlab so your whole current project is there, and then submit only your README.md file, in which you include a link to your project in gitlab so that it's easily downloaded for marking.
Hi everyone,
Thank you to the people who brought to my attention the error in the submission system. You should now be able to submit your projects (please let me know if you cannot for any reason, and include a screenshot of the error message).
Remember that it is due by 10pm tonight.
Please make sure you've submitted the form to request a demonstration time for tomorrow (link can be found here ) and that your name is showing up on the spreadsheet here . I'll do a last round processing requests and allocating times tomorrow morning.
Remember that you must show up for your whole hour, to the Zoom Link location corresponding to your name in the spreadsheet.
Any questions, please let me know.
Cheers,
Sim.
Tuesday 1-3pm class is in Lyre today (k17)
A reminder that tomorrow's Tuesday 3-6pm class is online here: https://unsw.zoom.us/j/86178190840
We will start at 3:05pm and we'll be going through project, lab help, and revision questions - so please come prepared 📯
Hi everyone,
The lecture on 31st January will be 11am-12pm.
10am-12pm: Lectures as normal
2pm-4pm: No lecture. Consultation time instead. I'm offering first timeslots to people who have requested consultations on the forum. If you haven't requested a consultation and would like one, you may attend during that time, and I'll allocate any remaining time on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Hi everyone,
Just a remainder that I'll be going through week 4 tutorial from the beginning now for the next 2 hours and whatever time I have left until 4pm will be consultations, feel free to join via this zoom link .
Hi everyone,
Sorry for the late update, but we just found out that for the COVID API in Optional 1 no longer works, so if you haven't started please do Option 2 instead, but if you have spent a lot of time struggling to get it to work feel free to submit whatever you have done and your tutor will just look at your code manually and give you the marks.
For that reason we'll extend the lab3b due date to 5pm this Saturday , hope you'll have enough time to do it.
Hi everyone,
For week 4 (this week), the Tuesday 3-6pm class will end early at 4pm, and there is no second class. As always the tutorial solutions can be found on the tutorial solutions page.
Book a consultation to recieve your project proposal marks and to discuss your project progress so far. You can do so by posting on the forum or to book one with me specifically through this link .

For week 5 (next week), class will be online instead: https://unsw.zoom.us/j/86178190840
Cheers! 🏃🏻♀️💨
We have relocated today's tute-lab to Ainsworth 306 (sitar lab).
I'm holding an online tutorial/lab this Saturday from 5-8pm here: https://unsw.zoom.us/j/88664955886
Should you attend?
The tutorial will take place from about 5:05-6:30pm and will be about
tutorial 3a task 2 - serialisation
and
tutorial 3b
. For the serialisation task (from tut3a), we will be building off of our code in class today which can be found
here
. It is not required, but it is helpful to understand that code :)
The lab will take place from about 6:30pm-8pm and is a chance to get labs marked, project ideas checked off, and to chat if you have questions/concerns/other. There is no obligation to stay for the lab and this section will end early if there are no more requests!
Hi everyone,
Tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon 2pm-4pm I'll be available in the zoom lecture room.
If I haven't clarified Lab 3a by then (I might do it in the lecture in the morning), I will prioritise that. After that, I'm prioritising any help people need on their projects. (After that, if there's time, I'll address questions about any other lab work which people need help with.)
Cheers,
Sim.
Sorry everyone, I don't know what happened to my zoom/internet connection. I'm working on fixing it now. I'll be back asap.
I'm holding an online tutorial/lab this Friday from 5-8pm here: https://unsw.zoom.us/j/88364070931
Should you attend?
The tutorial will take place from about 5:05-6:30pm and will be about tutorial 2b content . This means to follow along you will need your local Python environment setup with pip and Flask . It is also generally helpful to watch the lectures beforehand :)
The lab will take place from about 6:30pm-8pm and is a chance to get labs marked, project ideas checked off, and to chat if you have questions/concerns/other. There is no obligation to stay for the lab and this section will end early if there are no more requests!

FAQs
Q. What is a lab vs a tutorial
Q. I'm concerned that I'm missing out on Labs since they aren't recorded.
A. Labs aren't really recorded generally because no new content is taught. If you have questions and can't make a lab, you can always book a consultation session to speak with a tutor about your questions.
Q. I can't make my class but I still want to go to a class.
A. You can always go and visit another tutor's class if you want to attend extra classes or if you can't make a class, especially given the recent class changes. You can find other class times in the Timetable tab. Keep in mind though how your labs are submitted due dates etc are dependant on your enrolled class. Also be aware that occasionally a class may be moved online or rescheduled, this is not announced course-wide, it is announced to classes only right now, potentially email the tutor or ask a student of that class if you want to visit.
I'm running a course wide lab tomorrow 2-4pm now lab 1b has been released

Reminder Tuesday 1-4pm students that Tuesday In person class next week has been moved to online Monday
From Tuesday of week 2 onwards we will be doing more work on our own computers (as opposed to online in Colab notebooks). Please follow the instructions in this document Setting up your computer for Python in order to be ready for Tuesday's lecture.
Cheers,
Sim.
Hi everyone,
More lab questions based on the lecture content in the second half of last week have been released. They can be found here:

Also, I apologise for my delay getting the website up and running for this term and making information available to you. By the end of today I expect to be up to date and you'll have access to things in a more timely manner in the future.
