Hi,
If you're looking for a place on campus to do your demo, or would like to be in person when doing it, I'll be in K17, level 4, room 402 and you're welcome to come there for it.
Cheers,
Sim.
In your project starter folder which you downloaded in week 3, there is a feedback folder. Inside that feedback folder, there are 2 documents: Feedback1.md and Feedback2.md. Please type in your feedback task into those 2 feedback files. Then, zip up the feedback folder only and submit that through the Stage 4: Feedback page.
Title says it all :)
Hi everyone,
Projects are due tomorrow night. Demonstrations are happening this Thursday. Please check your time on Demonstration Schedule as some changes have been made recently to accomodate limited tutor availability.
The Zoom link for your allocated group will be released on the Demonstration Schedule between now and the start of your session.
Please familiarise yourself with the assessment criteria and submission process for the Feedback Task .
Any questions, please ask me during the lecture tomorrow.
I'm looking forward to seeing many of your projects on Thursday.
Cheers,
Sim.
Thanks to everyone who joined us online yesterday. Unfortunately I'm still not well so will be delivering today's lecture online too. Usual time and zoom link. I hope (expect) I'll be back in person next week.
Hi everyone,
Unfortunately I'm quite ill so will be delivering today's lecture online, at the usual time, through the usual lecture link.
Regards,
Sim.
Hi all!
I'm excited to announce that we'll be running an in-person practice session for the exam on Wednesday the 30th of April (week 11). We'll be running the practice exam from 1-5 PM in the Kora lab on level 3 of the Ainsworth building.
Your final exam will be run on UNSW computers using an isolated exam environment. We'll use the same environment for the practice exam, so this is an excellent opportunity to practice using the tools we provide. The only thing that will be different on the day will be the specific exam paper and starter code, and so if you attend this practice session, you'll have a solid idea of what to expect for the exam.
Don't stress. You can attempt any of the practice exams we'll release in the next few weeks on your own computer. I'll also be recording a video tour of the practice exam environment once we've done a bit more setup. You can watch that to know how the exam will be run.
Specific details will be released soon, once we've finalised all the specifics. We'll publish a dedicated "Exam information" page on WebCMS as soon as we're ready (likely within a week or so). For now, here are the details that are confirmed:
If you're really worried about the exam or other content, please post on the forum -- we're here to help you and can offer you additional support if needed. In particular, please don't suffer in silence if you're finding the course needlessly difficult. It is literally our job to help you learn, so if you're finding it too challenging, please tell us.
Thanks for reading! I'm excited to see everyone for the practice exam.
~Maddy
Just one more thing to add.
On both Wednesday and Thursday, if no one shows up by 11:30, I will assume no one is coming for the rest of the time that day. If you plan to attend but won't arrive by 11:30, please email me saying what time you'll arrive. That way, even if no one else shows up, I'll return at the time you indicate you'll arrive.
Hi everyone,
Here are the details for what I'll be making available to you this week.
The plan below is based on the results of the voting in the poll. That being said, what we do will be highly dependant on the preferences of the people who turn up.
Unfortunately I haven't been organised enough to arrange an in-person location, so this means our "lectures" this week will be entirely online in the usual Zoom lecture link .
The structure of Wednesday (tomorrow) and Thursday will be the same.
11am-1pm: I will present you with some questions and, depending on the preferences of the people who show up, allow you time to attempt the question first, or go through a solution immediately.
1pm-2pm: I will provide individual assistance on projects. I've found in the past that this is great when done as a group as everyone learns from the help provided. If you would like help in a slightly more anonymous way, you may e-mail me your project (zip up your folder and e-mail it to s.mautner@unsw.edu.au) along with your question, and I can present it during the time while trying to not identify you as the student.
What if I want individual assistance, but can't attend that time?
You are always allowed to ask to make a consultation time either by e-mailing me or by posting privately on the forum.
I hope your flex week is going well, and I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow. :)
Cheers,
Sim.
Hi everyone,
This is just a reminder that your proposal is due 4 days from now. Please make sure you've run your idea(s) by myself or your tutor with enough time to make any necessary changes.
Cheers,
Sim.
Good morning everyone and welcome to week 3! I've now release the specification for the COMP1010 project. It can be found here:
Alternatively you can access it directly here .
I encourage you all to take some time between now and Wednesday to have a read through the material provided, but please save all your questions for after we go through it together on Wednesday morning.
Lecture recordings in the form of a YouTube playlist can be found here:
YouTube Playlist of all Lectures
New lectures will be uploaded to that playlist (usually) straight after the lecture.
Following each lecture, I will upload the code and drawings from that lecture to this Lecture Code thread on the forum. I recommend bookmarking this link: Lecture Code
Hello everyone!
Welcome to COMP1010 for 25T1 :)
The course website is now up and running and is slowly getting filled in with information for the course (lecture content, assessment tasks, extra resources). It can be found here: COMP1010 Course Homepage . I highly recommend you bookmark this page as you will be using it often this term.
On Wednesday at 11am we have our first lecture . For those of you joining us face-to-face we will meet in Science & Engineering G05 (K-E8-G05). For those of you joining us online, (assuming no technical difficulties), you can join us in the Zoom Lecture Link .
On Thursday at 11am our lecture will be held at Science & Engineering G07 (K-E8-G07) with the same online options as Wednesday.
I hope to also write our first computer programs in Python and start learning some course content.
Between now and then, please join the course forum using this link: https://edstem.org/au/join/WjMAmq . The forum is a place where you can ask questions (both publicly and privately) at any point in the course. I highly recommend you bookmark this page too.
If you're feeling super keen and would like to get your brain warmed up before Wednesday, I recommend doing the reading and activities in the following links:
I'm looking forward to meeting you all on Wednesday.
Cheers,
Sim Mautner
