The COMP1911 Bridging Course will be running in week0 of T3.
That is the 4th-9th of September.
Completion of the bridging course will give you the opportunity to enroll in any course that has COMP1511 as a prerequisite.
Note that COMP1521 doesn't have COMP1511 as a prerequisite, so can be completed without the doing the bridging course.
But COMP1511 itself, nor the bridging course will appear on your academic transcript.
in fact passing or failing the bridging course will not effect your WAM in any way.
The Bridging Course will consist of 3 main topics: ADTs, Linked Lists, and Recursion.
There will be:
two online lectures, times TBA.
two lab exercises that need to be completed. (but no tutorial or lab classes).
and a 1.5 hour in-person final exam at midday Saturday 9th.
In order to be accepted into the bridging course you must revive a mark of 75% or more in COMP1911.
If you are interested in joining the bridging course please complete the following google form:
https://forms.gle/EPKLJP4ud9NRQBRKA
You do not need to know your mark for COMP1911 for this term to register your interest.
An email was sent to all students regarding seating allocations. Please go to the following site to find your seating allocation.
Pre Exam consultation ( on Teams - click here) will be at 11:30 am to 12:15 pm on Friday, 11 August 2023. We will anwer any queries you may have, and discuss how to prepare for the exam.
We reviewed the course in today's lecture (Monday Week-10) and discussed the following exam-related information. Please view the video if you haven't already. It offers many helpful information regarding how to prepare for the final exam.
As mentioned by Dylan in the earlier post, Lab 10 will help you familiarise yourself with the exam environment and offer practice questions. Today's lecture was the last lecture of the term; we will post pre-exam consultation times later this week or early next week. If you have any queries, please post them on the forum.
During in-person lab classes this week, instead of running a normal lab session tutors will instead be running a mini practice exam to get you familiar with the exam environment.
This practice exam will be using the same environment as the final exam,
and will be run under exam conditions (ie closed book, no communication).
It is highly recommended to attend an in-person week 10 lab so you get a chance to familiarize yourself with the environment that will be used during the final exam.
As the exam environment requires CSE lab computers, online labs will continue as normal.
If you are enrolled in an online tut/lab class, please feel free to attend an in-person lab this week.
And, vice versa - as the in-person lab classes will be a practice exam, they will not be normal labs were you can receive help with the lab questions.
So if you are enrolled in an in-person lab please feel free to attend an online lab this week if you have questions about the week10 lab.
Note that this practice exam is optional and not worth any marks, a normal set of lab questions have been released as normal and are worth marks as normal.
Assignment 2 is now available ( Assignment 2 ).
In the next lecture (Tomorrow), we will discuss the assignment specifications briefly and address any questions you may have.
Please read the specification carefully before the next lecture.
Assignment 2 will require knowledge up to the end of the Week08 (this week) lectures to complete (e.g. structs).
Assignment 2 is Due on Sunday week10 (6th of August) at 8pm.

Hi everyone
A PhD student in the School of Education is surveying international students in dual degrees.
If you are an international student in a dual degree and would like to complete the survey there is more information below including a link to the survey.
The survey is optional and unrelated to COMP1911.
Dear dual degree students,
Researchers at The University of New South Wales (UNSW) are conducting a project about
international students’ experience of and response to assessment and feedback in the
context of cross-disciplinary studies. The insights provided should help universities better
support the increasing number of international students studying cross-disciplinarity
programs so that their satisfaction with assessment and feedback increases.
Participation in this research is not a requirement of the course/degree. Taking part in this
research study is optional and you may choose not to take part. Your decision to participate,
or not, will have no impact on your assessments or course grades.
The research study is looking recruit people who meet the following criteria:
• International students
• Doing a dual degree at Australian universities
If you decide to take part in the research, a full description of the research is included in the
first page of the online survey. You can access the survey via the link or QR code below.
Participation in this research will take approximately 10-15 minutes. After completing the
survey, you will be entered into a prize draw consisting of one of twenty $10 e-gift cards
(Woolworths Supermarket Gift Card).

During today's lecture Ashesh used a website called "Python Tutor" to visualise the execution of a C program and view the programs memory.
Here is a link to this website: https://pythontutor.com/c.html#mode=edit
Note that as was shown in today's lecture of you want to visualise arrays you need to initalise the array otherwise the memory view will show incorrect information (this isn't actually a bug in the program but a limitation on how the C language stores empty arrays) here is an example .
Please note that the following sessions are in addition to the tutorials, laboratories, and Help Sessions (they will be available beginning next week). The following PASS sessions are not compulsory, but if you are interested, you can attend them.
