My L10 exam timing guide was wrong and I shall update it as follows:
The exam will commence at 9:45AM on 14 May and is expected to be completed shortly before 2PM.
Ten minutes reading time for the theory paper will start at 9:50AM sharp.
Apologies for any confusion.
The feedback for these batches is available now.
We expect to have marked on time lab06 submissions by next Monday and those for lab07 by 4 May, with all lab marking completed by 11 May.
Feedback is available for these submissions. We are marking late lab04 and ontime lab05 submissions.
Please be reminded that the final practical exam will be held in labs such as Brass using CSE workstations that have no Internet access. Use of AI tools during the exam will be not be possible. At this early stage of hardware design experience, we encourage you to build your own knowledge and skills rather than relying on LLMs to complete your work for you.
Feedback on late lab03 submissions is now available
The lab exercises require students to develop their design on paper and to submit their paper work as documentation accompanying their submission. We have found at least one instance of a student using the Vivado schematic tool after having coded their design to produce the desired block/circuit diagrams. This practice will not be accepted as "developing a paper design" since it is not in keeping with the intent of such exercises.
I have received details of the following opportunity from Jenny King, an FPGA design engineer at Arista in Sydney, and a former UNSW student (graduated 2023).
"Last year we had fantastic success hiring talented interns from UNSW from your computer engineering courses. We have recently opened internship applications for 2026/27 and are hoping to share Arista's FPGA internship opportunities in a similar way this year.
I understand it is late in the term, though we would greatly appreciate if you could share this opportunity with your COMP3222 and COMP9222 students. A flyer with more details is attached. "
The Quiz has been marked and you should be able to see your result using the Grades (bar chart) widget at bottom left of WebCMS3 course menu.
The distribution of marks is as illustrated below. I will review some of the trickier questions during next Friday's Q&A.
Students who wish to inspect their paper may do so in K17-302 from 2 - 3 pm next Tuesday, 7 April, after the lecture. Bring your student card.
The above submissions have been marked and are available for collection.
We will have indicated when we marked lab01 that you must use 2024.1 if you did not use it to complete lab01. We cannot mark labs completed with any other version.
Please note that from lab03 on we will deduct marks if you do not adhere to this request.
The on time submissions for lab02 and the late submissions for lab01 have now been marked and are available for review.
The disk is now accepting lab03 submissions again - apologies for any distress caused.
The deadline for on-time submissions has been extended by one day for all students.
As many of you will have noticed, the disk hosting COMP3222 files is full and rejected submissions commencing around 8pm last night.
I will therefore extend the deadline and announce the revised deadline via another notice to all students after the disk has become available again.
All lab01 submissions that were submitted on time have been marked and feedback is available for you to review.
We will mark the late submissions as soon as we can. Thanks for your patience.
See slide announcement here .
The Week 7 mid-term Quiz will be held in the usual lecture theatre at 12 pm on Tuesday 31 March.
The Quiz is 45 minutes long and comprised of 15 multiple choice questions.
The Quiz will examine the lecture material covered in Weeks 1 - 4 i.e. the contents of L01 - L05.
The Quiz will be closed book.
Welcome to all of you.
The COMP3222/9222 course website is now in pretty good shape to begin the course. The lecture slides are still being revised, but the labs are all up, and I plan to add solutions to the exercises as we proceed. Take a look at the sample exams provided.
The most important announcement for today is to point out that like in 2025, we will have a one-hour in-person quiz during lectures at 12pm on Tuesday 31 March, NOT fortnightly on-line quizes as mentioned in the UNSW course outline.
Other than that, relax - uni doesn't fire up again until Monday!
PS. If you are having second thoughts about this course, please drop it ASAP because we have quite a long waitlist. Thanks!
Welcome to the 26T1 offering of COMP3222/9222.
This website is currently under construction, but it should be ready by 16 February. Please explore in the meantime, but be aware that content may change before Week 1.
I'll let students know when the construction of the course website has been completed.
