Due to JAS's absence some lecture slides were copied from 23T3, The exam slides indicated that course notes would be available in the exam. This was unfortunately just left over from 23T3.

Quiz 6 is due Tomorrow at midnight (yes tomorrow is a public holiday but it should only take 10 minutes)
There have been a number of emails today about COMP3311 clashing with first year maths exams, in particular MATH1081.
most first year math courses, including MATH1081, run exams on multiple days.
COMP3311's exam only runs on one day: the 12th of May.
If you are taking a first year maths course you must ensure that it is not at the same time as the COMP3311 exam.
Please email <exams.mathsstats@unsw.edu.au> if you need to change the time of a maths exam.

Hi everyone,
JAS has become unwell and will be take some time off to recover.
Please make sure that any emails are sent to the course email address <cs3311@cse.unsw.edu.au> and not to any individual staff as JAS will likely not be responding to emails.

Lecture recordings will not be uploaded to YouTube for the moment, but can still be found on Echo360 via Moodle.
Professor Wenjie Zhang will also be assisting with the course during week06 as I will also be away.

If you want a quick Python intro, CSEsoc are running one of their weekly LeetCode workshops today (Wed 26 Feb) on Python basics (with arrays and hashing) in K17-113 from 2-4pm.
Reminder: each week, I'll post a preview video showing what's happening in the coming week. These videos appear on the Lectures page under (surprise!) Weekly Previews. Here's the Week 02 Video .
Normally, we use the first hour of lectures going over what's in the course, what's the assessment structure, etc. Waste of lecture time in a 9-week term (Flex week don't count). To save time, I've made a video which you can access via the Lectures page.
And off we go ...
The first lecture is Monday 2pm in K-F8-G04, otherwise known as Law Theatre G04, a delightful theatre just off the main walkway down near Anzac Parade. Even has windows. Hopefully, it also has working audio-visual tech.
While you're waiting, there are a couple of polls that I'd like to use to gauge the class's background. Clearly, we don't assume you know anything about databases, but we will require you to do some simple Python programming later in the term (after Flex week), so you'll need to do some self-study if you're a complete Python newbie. If you're lucky enough to be enrolled in COMP2041, that should sort you out. If not, you could always sneak into the lectures or the course web site.
Welcome to the fun-filled extravanganza that is COMP3311 a la jas and dylan.
Here's the Welcome Video . Maybe not up to the usual Lynchian* standards, but possibly more informative.
If you think you need to look at the Moodle site (you don't), try here .
