  • Week 11: Final Exam Consultations and myExperience

Posted by Wen Hu Monday 18 November 2024, 09:30:16 AM, last modified Monday 18 November 2024, 09:30:26 AM.

    • There is no lecture this week (we have completed the course last week!!!), and I hope everyone has started preparations for the final exam. Please do not forget to check out the final exam page for the details of the exam.
    • In addition to Ed Forum , we will be available for final exam consultation. Please see this page for the detailed information of the consultation.
      • Although we have arranged 6 different time slots spreading Weeks 11 and 12, please start the preparation early and don't leave it to the last minute/time slot.
    • Thanks to those of you who have completed the myExperience Surveys . The response rate is 23%, which is less than those of uni (31%), faculty (26%) and school (31%). Furthermore, it took us more than 75% of the survey duration to achieve 23% and the response rate is very low. Could I please request everyone else to complete the surveys before they close? The link is HERE , we would appreciate your feedback very much!

  • Week 10: Final Week !!!

Posted by Wen Hu Friday 08 November 2024, 05:34:35 PM.

Here are a few important announcements for Week 10, which will be the last teaching week of this term:

    • In the lectures, we will wrap up the Link layer, which we started last week and then move on to Wireless Network. The lecture slides are available .
    • Lab 5 will be due on 12/11/2024 (Tuesday) 10am.This week, a tutorial will replace the lab (in your usual labs). This will serve as useful practice for the final exam. Please look through the questions before hand and try to solve them by yourself. All questions on the tutorial are from past exams. So effectively, it is a sample exam.
    • Please complete the myExperience surveys . The response rate so far is very low (e.g., ~6%), and we would appreciate your feedback very much.
    • The final exam will be held on campus via Inspera (invigilated) . We have made available several resources for the final exam, including a practice exam. The final exam will be held at:
        • COMP9331: 1:45pm to 4pm, 30/11/24 (Sat),
        • COMP3331: 9:45am to 12pm, 02/12/24 (Mon),

  • Week 9: Link Layer + Lab 4 + Assignment deadline approaching

Posted by Wen Hu Friday 01 November 2024, 11:51:20 AM.

Several announcements for Week 9 (final two weeks !!):

    • In Week 9's lectures, we will wrap up network layer before moving on to data link layer . Lecture slides are available.
    • Lab 4 will be due at 10:00am Tue 5 November.
    • The assignment deadline of 11:50am, Fri 08 November , is also approaching. This is a HARD deadline. Late submissions will be accepted but are subject to penalties as noted in the specification. Attend the assignment consultations if you need help. Details are HERE .
    • IMPORTANT : We appreciate that many of you prefer to write code on your personal machine and in your preferred IDE (e.g. Eclipse). However, your assignment will be marked in the VLAB environment and through command-line execution. Thus, you must thoroughly test your code in VLAB before you submit it. If we cannot execute your code, then we cannot award you any marks . Please pay attention to this point to avoid any angst when marks are released.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  • Mid Term Exam marks are available

Posted by Isura Bamunusinghe Arachchige Wednesday 30 October 2024, 03:29:04 PM.

The mid-term exam marks are now available. You can check your response and the marks in Inspera. Log into Moodle (or Inspera) and access the same mid-term exam link as before. Sample Solution for the mid term exam is available here .

On the main Inspera page, you will also see a candidate report ("View Report"). This includes the specific feedback from your maker for the manually marked questions if marks were deducted. At the bottom of the report, you can see a detailed view of the marks received for each question and the total mark.

Below are some statistics on the mid-term exam results:

  • Good luck with your Mid-term exam

Posted by Wen Hu Monday 21 October 2024, 08:21:36 AM.

With the mid-term exam approaching (i.e., start at 14:05), we want to wish everyone the best of luck. The exam will be accessible online through the Inspera platform, and you can find the link on your Moodle or Webcms page. Please note that all relevant information regarding the exam has already been shared in previous messages. It is crucial to take the exam on time as there will be no additional opportunities for those who miss it. We will be monitoring the Zoom chat during the exam to address any emergency issues that may arise.

    • Given the large cohort of over 900 students, accessing WebCMS3 simultaneously may cause the platform to crash. If you haven't done so, please download all necessary materials (e.g., lecture notes, lab materials and homework) beforehand .
    • the Ed Forum will be set to read-only during the exam.

  • Week 7 Programming Workshop and Start of Assignment Consultations

Posted by Isura Bamunusinghe Arachchige Saturday 19 October 2024, 05:55:34 PM.

Hope everyone is working hard for the midterm exam. Good luck!

Week 7 is also important as we have our Programming Workshop and the start of our Programming Consultation sessions to help you with the Assignment due in Week 9.

    Programming Workshop (Revised Timetable)

In Week 7, we will hold a programming workshop instead of the usual lab session. The goal is to help you get started with the programming assignment. Please review the tutorial specifications in advance. We will revisit client-server architecture and socket programming using a simple example. The workshop will have separate slots for Python, C, and Java, so attend the session based on your preferred language. Please check the revised timetable for week 7 . Note that this tutorial is not graded, and no code submission is required. Starter codes are available for you to practice.

Sample solutions will be made available by the end of the week 7.

    Assignment Consultations

Special assignment-specific consultations will be available weekly from Week 7 to Week 9 as per the schedule here . There are dedicated sessions for C, Java, and Python. You are encouraged to attend these sessions if you need help. Please note that the purpose of these sessions is to provide general assistance with programming, not for tutors to debug your code.

We will aim to add more consultation slots based on demand as the deadline approaches, and any changes will be announced accordingly. However, we expect everyone to attend the programming workshop in Week 7 to get a solid start on the assignment.
