  • Provisional Final Marks Available

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Monday 03 December 2018, 03:00:47 PM.

    Hi All,

You should now be able to see your provisional final grades.

If your grade is WD or WC then your result is being witheld till after you have sat a supplementary exam. This will be because either you applied for special consideration due to misadventure or you failed the course but your mark was considered close enough that with a second chance you may be able to pass. For those people, you should hear in the next couple of days from the exams unit when the supp is being held.

  • Sample Exam Solution

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Friday 09 November 2018, 12:14:16 PM.

    Hi All,

The solution to the sample exam is available here . If you've not already attempted to answer the questions in the sample exam yourself, I suggest doing that before you look at the solutions.

  • Best Game in the Course

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Monday 22 October 2018, 02:15:50 PM.

I completely forgot to announce the winners in the lecture today. Not wanting to hold it up any further, I'll do it now. The first place winner gets two bonus marks, and the respect of everyone in the course. The second and third get 1.5 bonus marks, and slightly less but still a fair amount of respect.

    *drum roll* The winners are:

1st: Dor1t0 by Silas Emanuel Eichsteller

2nd: Melon smash game by Jessica Der

    3rd: FlappyGame by Jessica Theodosius

If you see them around, offer them your congratulations.

  • Consultation and Assignment Demo Locations

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Monday 15 October 2018, 11:16:40 PM.

    Hi All,

Two things. Firstly, I am running an additional assignment consultation this week at 1PM on Wednesday in K17 G01.

Secondly, what follows is the demo locations for week 13. The first part of your group name before the underscore determines where you will be demonstrating. As I noted in the lecture today, please try to arrive 10 minutes early and ready to present. You can use either your laptop or the lab machine in the room. Whatever computer you use, make sure your assignment is already on it and ready to run.

    M15A: K17 G02
    M15B: K17 403
    M16A: K17 G02
    M16B: K17 G01
    M18A: K17 508
    M18B: K17 403
    M19A: K17 G01
    M19B: K17 G02
    W15A: K17 G02
    W16A: K17 G01
    MXXX: K17 508

If you are unable to be at your demonstration, please let me know as soon as possible.

  • Best Game Poll

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Wednesday 10 October 2018, 10:52:31 PM.

    Hi all,

As mentioned previously, we are holding a class vote for the best game in the course from assignment 1. You can find the poll under activities on the left hand side of the course website. Please support your fellow classmates by playing the games and voting for your favourite. I've already played a few of these during the last couple of lectures and will play the rest during the next lecture.

Note that there was a previous version of the poll on the website that a small number of you took part in. Unfortunately, that poll was missing one of the games and in order to add that game I had to remove the previous results (webcms polls aren't very good). If you were one of those handful of people, you'll need to vote again.

    May the best game win,
    Rob

  • Groups finalised

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Saturday 06 October 2018, 12:34:46 AM.

Assignment groups are now finalised. All of you who joined a group can now submit your assignments. Only one person in each group needs to submit. A submission from one group member will replace any previous submissions by other members.

I'm assuming any people who did not join a group do not intend to do the assignment. If that is not the case, please let me know via email so I can manually enable submission for you. You will still need to join a group on the course website, but you won't be able to submit unless I explicitly enable it.

Hopefully someday someone will make the groups feature on webcms less of a pain in the butt...

  • Last chance to join a group in order to submit

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Friday 05 October 2018, 12:32:16 PM.

As I noted in my previous announcement, today is your last chance to join a group for assignment 2. Everyone needs to be in a group in order to submit for the iniitial milestone by Sunday. If you haven't already joined a group, you need to do so ASAP.

I will open up submissions this evening. Only one person from each group needs to submit.

  • Consultations this week

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Monday 01 October 2018, 01:21:17 PM.

While there are no lectures or tutorials this week, there is the usual consultation on Friday and I've added a consultation for Wednesday too.

The Wednesday consultation is at 2PM in K17 G02.

Also, if you haven't already, you need to join a group for assignment 2 on the course website. The slots are filling up fast. See my previous announcement for details.

  • Assignment 2 Group Registration

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Friday 28 September 2018, 11:19:00 PM.

    Hi All,

I've set up assignments groups on the course website so you can register your group. The groups are already created, you just need to join the one. Everyone needs to join a group, even if they are working alone. Go to 'Groups' in the menu.

The groups represent your group name and your demo time in week 13. Choosing a group books a time for your demo. Each time slot is 10 minutes long and is in the hour of your regular tutorial, or the hour before or hour after. Make sure you do not join a group that is already taken by another group. The first part of the group name represents the tute group and the second the time of demonstration. For example, 'M15A_1410' is for a group in the M15A tutorial and will be demonstrating at 2:10PM on the Monday of week 13. If you and your partner are from different tutorials, join a group from one of them.

The groups prefixed with 'MXXX' are for people who are unable to demonstrate in a timeslot associated with their regular tutorial. Don't join these groups without contacting me first.

Please discuss with your partner when you're going to demonstrate and join the corresponding group as soon as possible.

Next friday (5th October) I will close off the group registration and open up submission for the assignment (unfortunately the submission system does not allow for both to be open at the same time). You MUST be in a group by then in order to submit. Only one person from each pair needs to submit for either milestone. .

  • Consultation on Friday

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Wednesday 26 September 2018, 10:58:36 AM.

    Hi All,

This is just to let everyone know that there IS a consultation on this week. I originally wasn't going to have one, but due to people expressing interest, I will hold one at the usual time and place. If requested I will also hold additional consultations next week, before the initial milestone is due.

  • Quiz 5 and Week 10

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Thursday 20 September 2018, 06:06:27 PM.

    Hi All,

Quiz 5 is out. It's slightly different to previous quizzes as it has more questions and covers the whole course up to this point, not just the past 2 lectures. You also have longer to do it. It's not due till the end of week 11.

In case anyone is unaware, we don't have a lecture in week 10 due to the public holiday Monday. We don't have any tutorials in that week either. I will be running additional consultations for the assignment in Week 10. I will put up the dates and times next week.

  • Finding assignment partners via Piazza

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Saturday 08 September 2018, 10:42:46 AM.

I've set up the "Search for Teammates" facility on the Piazza forum. I've not used this feature before, so I don't know how well it will work. However, if you're still looking for a partner, please feel free to try it out. In your post, be sure to include what tutorial you are in. As I've said before, you can form partners with people from other tutes, but it would be best if both you and your partner are available at the time of each others tutorial in week 13.

  • Assignment 2 released

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Thursday 06 September 2018, 03:56:16 PM.

Assignment 2 is now available on the course website. I will discuss it in the next lecture. Note that while you can start the assignment now, certain parts of it you will require code added to UNSWgraph in the next lecture.

If you've not already, I strongly recommend finding a partner as soon as possible. Your tutors can assist you in that.

The initial milestone is due at the end of week 10 (the week after the break) and the final milestone at the end of week 12.

    Good luck!

  • Quiz 3 Released

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Monday 03 September 2018, 07:07:48 PM.

You all know what to do by now. Good luck!

  • Extra consultation tomorrow

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Wednesday 22 August 2018, 08:03:29 AM.

    Hi All,

Due to popular request I'm running an assignment consult tomorrow between 12 and 2 in K17 G01. This is in addition to the regular consult on Friday. Please come along with any enquiries relating to the assignment.

  • Guest Lecture Next Week and Quiz 3 Released

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Monday 20 August 2018, 06:18:50 PM.

    Hi All,

For part of next week's lecture we are very lucky to have Xi Chen, a rendering engineer at Activision Blizzard, giving a guest lecture. I encourage you all to come along in person so you can hear about computer graphics from the perspective of someone in the industry who works on major game titles. The lecture will be recorded, but the recording will only be available for a short period.

In other, less exciting, news, this week's quiz is now available. It's due on Friday of week 6.

  • Quiz 2 Released

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Monday 06 August 2018, 06:20:53 PM.

It's available under activities in the left-hand menu. Good luck everyone!

  • Quiz 1 extension

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Saturday 04 August 2018, 12:49:00 PM.

    Hi All,

Owing to a number of people having difficulties submitting their answers to the quiz last night, I've moved the deadline to tonight at 11:59PM. After that, I will release the answers and the results.

  • Assignment 1 released

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Wednesday 01 August 2018, 04:49:05 PM.

    Hi All,

Assignment 1 is available on the course website under 'Assignments' in the menu. It is due at the end of week 5. I will talk about it in more detail at next week's lecture.

    Rob

  • Week 1 Quiz available

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Monday 23 July 2018, 07:11:32 PM.

The quiz for week 1 is available on the course website (under 'Activities' in the menu). It is only 6 multiple choice questions this week. It contains some Java revision and questions about this week's content and is due by the end of next week. As noted on the course outline, quizzes are assessed and overall contribute to 10% of the course mark.

    Happy quizzing,
    Rob

  • Welcome to COMP3421/COMP9415

Posted by Robert Clifton-Everest Thursday 19 July 2018, 03:38:45 PM.

Hi everyone and welcome to Computer Graphics for 2018.

    Week 1 Lab:

In week 1 (next week) we are running one off optional lab sessions. The lab exercise is available via the menu on the course website under 'Course Work > Content'. The exercise is relatively short and intended to help you get your laptop or cse account setup for the practical components of this course and do a small exercise based on the week 1 lecture content. The lab sessions are held at the following times and places.

Monday 3-4pm and 4-5pm in piano, organ, and clavier (the K14 labs)
Wednesday 3-4 and 4-5pm in clavier

If there is demand, I will run another session at another time (subject to lab availability).

    Forum:

We are using Piazza for a forum this semester (not webcms, even though we're using it for course content). Over the next few days you will receive an email invitation to your student email address. While no course material will be released on the forum, it's a good place to ask questions, so please sign up.
