  • Assignment marks available

Posted by Paul Hunter Sunday 16 May 2021, 05:13:19 AM.

    Hi all,

Your assignment marks for the course as I have them in my records have been put up on the course website. You can view them by viewing your Grades on the course website.

Can you please check and let me know if there are any gross omissions (e.g. a very low mark when you believe you made a reasonable submission; or a very high mark when you did not make a substantial submission)?

I am able to answer queries, but as exam marking is still ongoing I may not be timely in my response.

This is a brief reminder that the final exam is due in a little over 1 hour. Please be sure to make a submission well in advance of this deadline as there is no grace period.

Students with Special Consideration have been advised (earlier in the term) of the extension which applies to them.

  • Final exam tomorrow

Posted by Paul Hunter Tuesday 11 May 2021, 03:44:06 PM.

    Hi all,

Apologies for my absence - I have had to deal with some personal issues and I am struggling to get up to date on things.

    Final exam

    • The final exam is a 24-hour take-home exam
    • The exam will be made available on the course website on Wednesday 12 May, at 10am (AEST)
    • The deadline for submitting your solutions is Thursday 13 May, at 10am (AEST)
    • Submission should be either a single pdf file and is to be made through webCMS/give. Emailed solutions are not acceptable unless there are ongoing issues with the server.
    • Submissions should not be larger than 20Mb. Typeset prose is required - any typesetting program is fine (do not spend an excessive time producing your output). Hand-drawn diagrams are ok.
    • Multiple submissions are ok/recommended - you will be assessed on the last submission received before the deadline. The last 3 submissions are kept as backup. Do not leave submission to the last minute.
    • The exam is open book. Passive resources (i.e. existing material) are acceptable but should be adequately referenced. Active resources (i.e. posts made to forums) are not acceptable and will be considered a breach of Student Conduct.
    • You are being assessed on your ability and understanding - your answers should aim to demonstrate these.
    • Late submissions will be penalized at 25% (of raw mark) per 15 minutes or part thereof . There is no grace period - it is your responsibility to allow for (minor) network issues such as upload times.
    • If you experience any issue that will prevent you from attempting/completing the exam, you need to apply for Special Consideration . For foreseeable issues, the application needs to be made prior to the exam. If you experience technical issues before or during the exam, you should follow these instructions:
      • Take screenshots of as many of the following as possible:
        • error messages
        • screen not loading
        • timestamped speed tests
        • power outage maps
        • messages or information from your internet provider regarding the issues experienced
      • All screenshots must include the date and time the issue occurred.
      • Make contact with me immediately (through email or Collaborate chat) and advise me of the issue.
      • Submit a Special Consideration application immediately at the conclusion of your assessment and upload your screenshots.
    • I will be available through email/forums/Collaborate from 10am-12noon on Wednesday to answer any questions about the exam. I will be able to answer questions at other times on Wednesday, but there may be a delay in my response.

  • Assignment 3A update

Posted by Paul Hunter Friday 09 April 2021, 10:38:20 AM.

    Hi all,

The auto-feedback for submissions for Assignment 3A is now active. This is primarily for your benefit - if you have already attempted a submission, I should have your files and you will still be graded even if you do not make another submission.

Although the assignment specification states that you are not being assessed for efficiency, there are one or two tests in each part with large input sizes intended to reward students that implement minor optimizations (nothing too complex).

  • Assignment 3 (Part A)

Posted by Paul Hunter Thursday 25 March 2021, 02:03:24 PM.

    Hi all,

I am working through producing the missing course content (e.g. Tutorial/Assignment answers, upcoming Tutorials). Marking of Assignment 1 is still ongoing, and there are still outstanding SC submissions for Assignment 2, so solutions will not be released just yet.

Assignment 3 (due Monday 12 April ) has two parts: a practical part (Part A) and a theoretical part (Part B) [worth 50% each]. Part A will be automarked with feedback on submission (hopefully). I have released the specification for Part A so you can get started on it right away, the give submission portal will be available shortly.
