Hi everyone : )
Your second essay marks have been released.
The average grade is 72.24% as things stand - but there are still a few essays awaiting marking, so this might fluctuate slightly.
Well done everyone! Please do reach out to your tutor for further comments and feedback as per usual.
As always, thank you so much for your hard work, enthusiasm, and wise questions.
All best,
Seb
Dear All,
Again, thank you so much for being so awesome this term : ) It has been the best iteration of 4920 so far, and this is very largely because of all of you and the efforts that you have put in.
On this - how would you like to help make it even more awesome?! 4920 will be running in 24T1, and there will almost certainly be tutorials available. If you are keen in taking part in the teaching side of things, then please do email me to let me know, and I shall make a note of this and send you the application details when they come (Talloc in January - stay tuned).
Our last lecture is this coming Wednesday. Okay this is not good news at all, it is sad news, but I am looking very forward to seeing you! It will be a revision/summary/reflection lecture, and your opportunity to ask anything and everything in person. Plus we have to finish all of the snacks.
Please please please do not forget that the myExperience surveys are still open, and both Flora and I would truly love your feedback. It does mean the world to us personally, and it is vital.
Thanks again, take care, see you Wednesday, and good luck with your final week of lectures for 2023!! "\(^~_~^)/"
All best,
Seb
Hi everyone!
It is best if each member of your groups submits a copy of your report. Please make sure that you have everyone's names on them of course!
All best,
Seb
Hi everyone!
I am looking super forward to see you all in tomorrow's lecture. Ethics washing awaits! Before then though, some very good news. The average essay mark was 72.09%, which is great. The highest mark was 94% #stunnedlook, and all of you worked solidly. Bravo : )
On a different note but no less excitingly, just today the Whitehouse released President Biden's Executive Order on Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence. Talk about good timing! Thank you Joe : ) You can read the Fact Sheet here:
https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2023/10/30/fact-sheet-president-biden-issues-executive-order-on-safe-secure-and-trustworthy-artificial-intelligence/
This is great material for your tutorials this week should you want some concrete examples!
All best,
Seb
Hi everyone!
I have just released your first essay marks on moodle. There are still a handful of essays to be marked, and your tutors are marking away as quickly as due diligence permits. They are very nearly there! Congratulations to all of you for a job well done. I have read quite a few of your essays myself (just to be sneaky) and the quality is great. Well done, and thank you for giving this everything that you have : )
If you have any questions at all with regard to your mark and comments made by your marker, then please do email your tutor in the first instance, as they marked your essays.
Flora and I are looking very forward to seeing you all on Wednesday, with snacks!
All best,
Seb
Hi everyone!
All of you should now be in your groups for your group projects. If you are not aware of your groups, please do reach out to your tutor directly asap.
All best,
Seb
Hi everyone!
EDIT -
I stupidly posted the wrong essay Q doc - shall fix asap!
Edit 2 - I have now less-stupidly uploaded the correct essay Q doc- now fixed!
Exciting news - the second essay questions are now available on the course page. The due date is Friday October 27, but I am giving all of you a bonus one-week extension if you would like to use it. What does this mean?! It means that the submission portal will be open from Thursday October 26, and that I shall not deduct any pate penalties until after Friday November 03, 18:00.
To make this work, I have changed the "due date" in moodle to Nov 03 (as otherwise you will all get bright red late-submission notices - and I shall get hundreds of emails asking me if this is going to apply).
Happy writing : )
All best,
Seb
Hi everyone,
I am getting a few worried messages about turnitin similarity scores, so I wanted to post this to put your minds at rest.
Please know that the raw percentages on their own are nothing for you to worry about. If you had a lot of direct quotes and a long bibliography etc., then you might have a very high score, maybe 30% for example, but this itself would be nothing to worry about if you had referenced everything properly :)
Congratulations to all of you in advance for submitting your essays! I cannot wait to see how you all do, and you should know that your tutors are cheering you on.
All best,
Seb
Happy Moon Festival everyone!!! I hope that you are all having a wonderful evening. Thank you for making the course so awesome!
I wish you all the very best for the future :)
All best,
Se
Hi everyone!

Thanks for all of your great questions on the forum and via email! "\(*o*)/"
Here is a good entry on Error Theory for those of you doing the first essay question on Error Theory:

Your tutors all said that your first tutorials went splendidly, which is wonderful to hear. See you tomorrow. With snacks of course.
All best,
Seb
