  • Tutoring 4920 in 24T3

Posted by Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson Friday 19 April 2024, 04:49:45 PM.

    Hi everyone!

Firstly and most importantly, thank you for being such a great cohort : )

4920 will run agin in T3 this year, and I would to invite you to email me with an EOI if you are interested. When the time comes towards the end of T2, Andrew Taylor will send out the official T3 tutoring EOI, and you would need to fill out Talloc of course.

But for now please do just send me a quick email and I shall keep note.

    Again, many many thanks!!

    All best,

    Seb

    Hi everyone!

Firstly and most importantly thank you for being such a great cohort. Your lecture and forum questions have been super, and your tutors are saying nothing but marvellous things. So, hurrah!

We are heading into the home stretch and there are several things of note.

    (1) - there are a bunch of fabulous guest lectures coming up. I shall be a giving a short introduction to each of them. If you would like to give a lightening talk to your tutorial on any of the topics covered in a guest lecture, then all that you need to do is to let your tutor know on the day, and you then have a total of five (5) minutes to give your presentation to your class. A total of five (5) extra marks are available, to be added on to your Group Report mark. In the case of your group report mark being 96% and your receiving a full 5% for your lightening talk, I shall worry about this scenario then, if and when it happens. You may only give your lightening talk individually. That is, not in a group.

    (2) - the short extensions portal is up and running for the Second Essay. It seems to be working now (#crossesfingers) so there is no need to email me with a screenshot : )

    (3) - thanks again! Have a fantastic weekend, and see you on Monday. Flora's lecture is on Transparency and Explainable AI, and it will be fantastic as always.

    All best,

    Seb

  • Menlo Report added to Lectures>Week 4

Posted by Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson Thursday 14 March 2024, 03:58:55 PM.

    Hi everyone!

It looks like we managed to knock the Menlo Report offline : ) So, I have added a copy to the Week 4 Lecture materials here on webcms as "Menlo Report for Essay 2 Question 3".

    All best,

  • Short extensions system problems

Posted by Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson Monday 04 March 2024, 11:37:08 AM.

    Hi everyone,

Oh dear. So...the university launched its Short Extensions System this term. I opted in for 4920 and assumed that I would be notified if and when the system actually went live.

However, what is actually happening is the following:

    - The Short Extensions System has gone live, but I did not get any notification about this.

    - Some of you have found the Short Extensions portal and you have applied, and your applications have been approved.

    - I have not gotten any notifications of these applications nor of their their approvals from the Short Extensions System itself. The only way that I have found out is because you have emailed me and/or posted on the forum.

    - When I log into the Convenor Portal of the the Short Extensions System, I cannot see any of your submissions, approved or otherwise, under the Student Submissions section of the Portal.

    - Worse still, when I search under Student Submissions on the Convenor Portal, neither SENG4920 nor COMP4920 show up. Instead I get "No Results Found. Similarly when I try to search for my own name in the convenor field : (

So, the Short Extensions system is, for all intents and purposes, broken for the time being.

This is a great case study on the ethical ramifications of software development. I may in fact incorporate it into a future assessment and/or future iteration of this course.

In the meantime please do not worry. I am going to email each of you who have emailed me. There are lots and lots and lots of emails about this, so please bear with me. If you have been approved then your approval stands, but I shall need a screenshot of your approval.

    Onwards to victory,

    Seb

  • Welcome to 4920!

Posted by Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson Saturday 03 February 2024, 06:31:34 PM.

    Hi Everyone!

    Welcome to 4920 : )

Flora and I and all of your tutors are looking super forward to meeting you! We have made a few changes in comparison to last term, based upon all your fellow students' excellent suggestions.

We have lots of new content at large - please see the course outline.

Also, we have left the webcms forum behind (sorry webcms forum), and moved to Ed!

You should have just received an invitation to join Ed under your firstname.lastname@student.unsw.edu.au email address. If you are on Ed under any other unsw email address, then please do the magic merge.

I am still setting up a few things - such as weekly readings etc.), and everything should be up and running by Monday/Tuesday of O-Week...but since everything is live I did want to say hi.

    Okay...see you soon!

    Seb (and Flora)
