• Exam Rules and Requirements - IMPORTANT

Posted by Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson Friday 01 May 2026, 10:41:20 AM.

    Make sure you are exam-ready!

Ensure that you know when and where your exam is: Exam timetable | Current Students – UNSW Sydney - there is no special consideration for misreading your timetable.

    Student ID requirements

You need your UNSW student ID card to sit your final exams on campus. Electronic IDs will not be accepted. Your UNSW student ID card will be scanned at the exam venue as part of a new attendance checking process.

If you are unable to provide your UNSW student ID card, you may not be able to sit your final exam. You can go to the Student Hub and get a new or replacement student ID card. New ID cards and replacements for expired cards are free, otherwise the cost of a replacement student card is $25. The Student Hub is NOT open on Saturdays.

Thank you, we appreciate your continued support.

    Best wishes,

    UNSW Exams

  • Group Report Submission

Posted by Edward Norman Friday 24 April 2026, 01:12:29 PM.

    Hi all,

End of term, glad to have spent it with you all. Your group reports are due today at 5pm, I've received a number of emails - just posting here to let you know that you all must submit your report on moodle (i.e. not just your group leader).

If you submit the incorrect file you will need to email me to delete it. Please try and avoid doing this, as I will be teaching all afternoon. If this does happen can you attach your final report to the email and I will upload it myself after 5pm. I will not be accepting emails/submissions after 5 so please be on top of this.

Good luck for the exam period!

    Edward

  • Exam ID - important message

Posted by Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson Tuesday 21 April 2026, 04:20:11 PM.

    Hi everyone,

The latest UNSW policy is " No UNSW ID card, then no exam ".

You must have a current valid UNSW Card in order to sit the exam. If you have a UNSW ID Card that is expired or damaged, then you MUST get a new card at Nucleus.

    All best,

    Seb

  • Practice Examination is now available

Posted by Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson Wednesday 08 April 2026, 11:06:37 AM.

    Good morning everyone,

I have added a practice examination to webcms under Assessment. I do recommend that you use this practice examination to practice under exam conditions. By this I mean that you set aside several two hour blocks and practice writing out answers within these blocks.

    All best,

    Seb

  • Good Friday plan for tutorial exercises

Posted by Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson Monday 30 March 2026, 03:06:15 PM.

    Hi everyone!

    Welcome back to Term 1 : )

So, this coming Friday is Good Friday . Good Friday is a public holiday . Since the University is closed for public holidays, we need to make alternative arrangements for the tutorial exercises for those of you who have your tutorials on Fridays. These alternative arrangements are as follows:

    1) This Thursday's lecture will finish at 12:25. From 12:30, I shall run a tutorial exercise make-up session in the lecture theatre. This arrangement is available only for those students whose tutorials are on Friday . All other students must leave the lecture theatre.

    2) For those of you who have your tutorials on Fridays but cannot make the Thursday lecture theatre at 12:30, you are permitted to attend any other face-to-face tutorial for this week, in which you may complete your tutorial exercise. You are not permitted to attend an online tutorial. This arrangement is available only for those students whose tutorials are on Friday. All other students must attend their timetabled tutorials as usual.

I know that this is a bit of a fussy arrangement, but public holidays really do mess things up.

Most importantly, I am looking very forward to seeing you on Wednesday for our first lecture after the break! I shall be speaking with you on professionalism and whistle-blowing.

    All best,

    Seb

  • Good Friday tutorial plan

Posted by Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson Monday 16 March 2026, 12:18:42 PM, last modified Monday 16 March 2026, 12:20:09 PM.

    Dear All,

This year, Good Friday falls on April 3, which is Friday of Week 7. This means that we must do something with regard to Tutorial Exercise 5 of 6, which takes place in tutorials over Week 7. What we will do is as follows:

The final 30 minutes of the lecture on Thursday April 2 will be dedicated to the Tutorial Exercise for those students whose tutorials fall on Fridays. Students whose tutorials are not on Fridays must complete their tutorial exercises in their regular tutorials as usual, and these students are not permitted to compete the tutorial exercise in the Thursday lecture.

If you are enrolled in a Friday tutorial and if you cannot make the Thursday lecture time-slot, then please go to any other tutorial during Week 7 on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Please note that the opportunity to attend a non-enrolled tutorial for the purposes of completing the Tutorial Exercise extends to Week 7 only, and it extends to students enrolled in Friday tutorials only.

All other non-Friday tutorials in Week 7 will run as usual.

A very Happy Easter to those of you celebrating.

    All best,

    Seb

  • Tutorial Exercise 2 - Results Posted

Posted by Edward Norman Thursday 12 March 2026, 01:20:03 PM.

    Hi all,

Your results for tutorial exercise 2 have been posted on moodle.

If you have received two grades of CN (that is a grade of 1/3) for these first two tutorial exercises, please contact your tutor and we can organise whatever support you might need. We want all of you to do as well as possible.

    Sincerely,

    Edward

    ( Note: grades on moodle map as: 1=CN, 2=CO, 3=CM )

  • Grade distribution for Tutorial Exercise 1 of 6

Posted by Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson Tuesday 10 March 2026, 04:25:22 PM.

    Hi everyone!

The grade distribution (with rounding) for the first Tutorial Exercise is as follows:

    CN = 12%

    CO = 65%

    CM = 23%

There are a handful of grades still to come and a small number of Moodle-corruptions (don't ask), but this is a good snapshot.

    Well done everyone!

    All best,

    Seb

  • Group Project Brief

Posted by Edward Norman Monday 23 February 2026, 09:48:37 AM.

    Good Morning All,

We have just uploaded the group project brief on webCMS, accessible via the sidebar under the Assessment header. Please read through the brief carefully, as we will begin this Applied Ethics: AI Case Study during tutorials this week (wk2 - group formation). Flora's lecture content over the next few weeks is integral to the group project so please do attend, or catch up asynchronously, as we will begin venturing into the exciting ( and very topical ) world of applied ethics in IT.

The group project gives you all an opportunity to explore an AI technology that is of interest to your group, looking at its impact on society by performing a conceptual Value-Sensitive Design analysis, and using this to make a verdict as to whether or not your team believe this technology should be deployed, or not. You will use the skills you have learned over the course to deliver this verdict in a way that would be compelling to your hypothetical product owner, offering them much needed guidance in this problematic ethical space.

    Best of luck!

  • Welcome

Posted by Edward Norman Thursday 12 February 2026, 10:46:25 AM, last modified Thursday 12 February 2026, 01:40:59 PM.

    Greetings intrepid COMP4920/9920 Students!

I am sending out this notice to first welcome you (again) to the course, w ebCMS here: (https://webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/COMP4920/26T1/) is going to be where your course content is located, as well as your group assessment brief (TBA).

Your week 1 content has been made available, with the remaining weeks to follow shortly. Do endeavour to complete the readings before the corresponding lecture, this information may be quite unfamiliar to many of you and it is best to get a handle on it early and to ruminate upon it. Our typical advice is to read it through once quickly, even if you don't understand it - then come to the lecture and have it walked through slowly ( ask questions! ), then upon revisit the reading should make considerably more sense than it initially did. This should prepare you well for the tutorial exercises held in your week 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 10 tutorials. Tutorials begin in week 1 (next week), where you will meet your tutor and go through the course structure and some preliminary content.

Other than that, we look forward to exploring the world of professional issues and ethics (in IT) with you this term!

Please direct any questions you have to your tutor in the first instance, otherwise to the course admin Edward (edward.norman@unsw.edu.au).
