Dear Thesis A Students,
In Week 8, you are required to give a presentation about your thesis project. Please schedule a time in Week 8 for the presentation with your supervisor and assessor. Although no other attendees are required, it is good to have relevant people who are interested in your project, to attend your presentation so that you can get more feedback.
Due to Covid-19, you need to do the presentation online. We recommend Microsoft Teams which is included in UNSW office 365 and can be login by using your zpass.
You can also discuss with you supervisor and assessor to choose another online meeting software, such as skype, google meeting, and zoom…
Key facts about your presentation:
One IMPORTANT thing to note:
If you cannot find a suitable time to do the presentation in week 8, you can do it later, but you MUST submit your slides by the due date. Otherwise, you will get the late penalty .
If you have further information to be included, please let me know. Thanks.
Good luck with the presentation.
Regards,
Dr. Jing Hsu, CSE Thesis Admin
Dear Thesis A students,
The talk "How to Write a Good Thesis" by Prof. Gernot Heiser has been recorded.
You can listen it from Week-by-week - week 0 - How to Write a Good Thesis .
Best Regards,
Jing
The lecture slides and recording for today's Thesis A Intro Lecture are now available on the Thesis A WebCMS3 sites:
https://webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/COMP4951/21T3/
You can find them under "Week-by-Week" on the menu. This is also the same place where you can find marking criteria, guide to writing, LaTex help, sample presentations and sample reports etc. We ask you to explore them. The slides and recording links will be available on the Moodle Thesis A site soon.
I mentioned in the lecture that an important skill is to be able to write well. I highly recommend you to attend the "How to write a good thesis?" talk tomorrow (Fri 10 Sept) at noon. ( Zoom login details ) Hope to see you tomorrow online.
Dear Thesis A students,
By the end of Week 1, you need to register your thesis topic details and set up a thesis project (project = topic + you + supervisor + assessor).
IMPORTANT: students without a topic by this deadline will be asked to discontinue Thesis A and try again next term.
Before registering your topic, you need to contact potential supervisors and get acceptance from a supervisor, who provide the topic and nominate an assessor for your thesis.
We have two systems available to manage Thesis projects. Please ask your supervisor which system they would prefer to use.
Note that your supervisor might not know about thesis.cse.unsw.edu.au and may not have put their topic there. You could ask them politely that if they're sick of Moodle, they can add their topic to the new thesis system, and you can run the whole project from there.
Best Regards,
Jing
Welcome to Thesis A for 21T3!
I hope you're excited to start Thesis A as it heralds, for most of you, the beginning of your last year of your degree.
My name is Chun Tung Chou and I am the convenor for CSE Research Thesis. We have arranged two online activities for you for Week 0. This is the double bonus that you get for starting Thesis in Term 3.
I look forward to seeing you in both talks. Both talks will be recorded and made available.
