To prepare for our upcoming mock trial tomorrow and to best simulate a real courtroom environment, we ask students participating to dress in professional attire. There is no expectation to purchase attire; ideally, clothing such as slacks/khakis, collared shirts or blouses, closed-toe shoes, and optional blazers is preferred. Please avoid jeans, t-shirts, sneakers, or overly casual clothing whenever possible.

    See you tomorrow. Wes.

  • Today's lecture reminder - Ainsworth G03 (K-J17-G03)

Posted by Arash Shaghaghi πŸŽ“ Tuesday 11 November 2025, 11:34:43 AM, last modified Tuesday 11 November 2025, 11:34:59 AM.

    Dear All,

As announced last week, we have an interesting industry speaker for today's lecture. Song Fang (Senior Incident Responder at Atlassian) will be delivering an in-person lecture today at Ainsworth G03 (K-J17-G03) [6 PM]. The lecture is mainly planned to be an in-person session, and we are not sure if we will be able to record. We encourage everyone to attend and engage with our industry speaker.

    Best, Arash.

  • Important: Mock Trial Date and Time + Attendance Expected

Posted by Arash Shaghaghi πŸŽ“ Monday 10 November 2025, 12:56:02 AM, last modified Monday 10 November 2025, 01:17:44 AM.

    Dear All,

🚨 The mock trial date/time is Wednesday, the 19th of November at 6 PM. We have had to adjust the date/time due to the unavailability of our honorable judge. Hence, there is no lecture on Tuesday, the 18th of November at 6 PM. The mock trial is a fully in-person session, with no recording or online attendance.

πŸ“Œ Due to this change, the Week 10 online lab (usually scheduled for Wed, 7 PM) will be on Tuesday, the 18th of November, at 6 PM .

We are hosting Prof Lyria Bennett Moses (Head of School, School of Law, Society and Criminology) as our judge for the mock trial. Wes is travelling to Sydney and will be running the show. Andrew and Lachlan will also be in the mock trial. The team is working hard to prepare for this session, and 6 students will be contacted to provide evidence in court. Wes will contact these students directly through email.

We expect all students to attend this course, and we plan to run an attendance check - no mark for attendance, but attendance will help later if we are reviewing borderline grades.

    Best, Arash

  • Interesting Online Seminar at CSIRO

Posted by Arash Shaghaghi πŸŽ“ Wednesday 22 October 2025, 04:42:18 PM.

    Dear All,

You may find this online talk interesting. It's organised by CSIRO and is publicly accessible - you need to register.

    https://events.csiro.au/Events/2025/October/22/Towards-an-All-in-One-Media-Forensics-Tool

    Abstract :

Intelligence analysts, journalists, and forensics experts must quickly and accurately examine and report on information in multiple modalities, including video, audio, and images. With the rise of Generative AI, these specialists face unprecedented challenges, and require effective, reliable, and explainable media detection and analysis tools. This work explores their requirements for deepfake detection tools and explainability features, with studies involving 30 US-based intelligence analysts, 24 US journalists, and 11 Bangladeshi journalists. We conclude that these specialists need an all-in-one tool for media forensics and propose an ontology-based approach to creating a navigable user interface for such a tool.

    Bio:
