Hi everyone!
Due to the severe weather, the school has advised moving lectures online tomorrow.
As such, the COMP6714 lecture scheduled for tomorrow (2–4pm) will be conducted online only via Blackboard Collaborate .
Please stay safe and attend the lecture remotely.
Due to the severe weather forecast, tomorrow’s weekly consultation (1–2 pm) will be held online via Blackboard Collaborate instead of on campus.
Stay safe!
Please be reminded that Assignment 1 is due this Friday 5pm .
Attention PLEASE !!!!
It has come to our attention that some students have mistakenly accessed and attempted last year's assignment under the General Course Resources Hub section. This was caused by a system issue, and that content has now been hidden.
Please ensure that you complete and submit COMP6714 A1 under the Assessment section, as instructed.
A 7-day extension will be granted only to students who attempted the incorrect version (we have a record of affected students). The revised deadline for those students is 5pm, Friday July 11th .
Thank you for your understanding!

The non-programming assignment (worth 10% of the course) will be available from 12pm tomorrow on Moodle under the section Assessments (you may need to click the down arrow to open the collapsible section to see it).
It is due on Friday, 4th July 2025 5:00pm .
Please post on Discourse Forum if you have any problem accessing it.
Please be reminded again that there'll be no streaming for this week's lectures. You can either go to the classroom or watch the recordings after lectures.
Also, the consultation sessions have started this week (please check the timetable & location under Timetable section).
See you next week!
Welcome to COMP6714 Information Retrieval.
Please read through the Course Outline to ensure you have an overview of how the course will be run this term, as well as expectations for assessment tasks and outcomes.
Lectures will be delivered in-person on campus. Lectures are also live on Blackboard Collaborate and through recorded video lectures, both of which are accessible via the Moodle Course Page.
There are no tuts/labs, but there will be drop-in consultations available, as per the class timetable .
We will be leveraging the Discourse Platform for the class forum. If you have problems accessing Discourse (e.g., late enrolment), please email cs6714@cse.unsw.edu.au
The first lecture will be on Wednesday, June 4th, 14:00-16:00 AEST in Griffith Building M17. Hope to see you there!
