I have updated the project specification with two clarifications:
* Verb normalisation is context-independent and applies to grammatical forms of the same verb. No general stemming or lemmatisation beyond the specified rules is required.
* Spelling correction uses the normalised vocabulary terms in the index. Insertion of spaces or hyphens is not required for this project, even though it was mentioned as a general possibility in the Week 3 spelling-correction lecture slides.
I have also corrected the relevant sanity-test outputs.
Because Part 1 is due in approximately two hours, any submitted Part 1 output files affected by these clarifications or the corrected sanity-test results will not be marked incorrect. However, please ensure that your Part 2 implementation follows the clarified rules.
Finally, as mentioned in Weeks 1 and 5, there will be no live lecture this Thursday. Consultation sessions will continue as scheduled.
The COMP6714 project specification, covering both Part 1 and Part 2, is now available.
I will go through the specification in this Thursday’s live lecture (i.e., Week 5) and answer any questions you may have.
Next week is Flexi Week, so there will be no live- nor recorded-lectures. Consultation sessions will still run, and you are welcome to attend if you have questions about the project or the lecture content.
A reminder that the COMP6714 assignment (access via Moodle) is due at 5:00pm on Tuesday, 13 October 2026.
Before starting, please read the assignment instructions carefully and review the Week 2 live lecture.
The drop-in consultation sessions are now running. Feel free to attend if you have questions about the assignment or any lecture content. Please check the timetable for available times.
The majority of course content is located on the WebCMS Course Page, but we will be leveraging the Discourse Platform ( here) for the class Q&A forum .
Please read through the Course Outline to ensure you have an overview of how the course will be run this term, as well as expectations for assessment tasks and outcomes.
Lectures will be delivered by Raymond Wong (course convenor), consisting of in-person live lectures and pre-recorded video lectures. The latter will be accessible via the Moodle Course Page. Live lectures will also be recorded in Moodle for those students enrolled in the Web stream.
There are no tutorial sessions but there will be drop-in consultations available for open discussion and Q&A, as per the class timetable (starting from week 3, availability to be announced shortly).
The first live lecture will be on Thu 17th September 4-6pm in Ainsworth G03 (Building J17)
Look forward to seeing you there!
