    I hope that you had a wonderful break.

    • We are looking for a casual RA for developing a mmWave IoT network testbed in the ICS (the room that you present the final project seminar) and a smart home testbed in Level 5, J-17.
    • Dr Abdelwahed Khamis, an alumni of my research group, from CSIRO is looking for PhD candidates in Generative AI for IoT/sensory data (https://research.csiro.au/d61students/project-8/).

    I have finalised the marks in SMS. I have added 1.5 bonus mark to your project final result to reflect the high myExperience return rate, and 0 - 1 bonus mark to your project progress result to reflect the guest lecture attendance in Week 9 according to the rule published earlier.

    I am impressed very much by the the quality of the projects. I would like to particularly highlight the following projects and teams in no particular order (Members' names are omitted due to privacy concerns).

    • "Driver fatgiue detection with heart rate variability analysis" by Team Cybis Mk.V
    • "Using IOT to provide live feedback for a Yoga practitioner while doing various poses" by Team IoTT

    I hope all of you enjoyed the course. Congratulations if you are graduating this term. If you will be at uni in T3, then I wish you a great short break and hope to see you in some other courses.

    • I am looking forward to your demo today . You are welcome to attend other teams' demo and provide constructive feedback. Please arrive 30 minutes earlier to prepare for the demo. If you haven't done so, please do make a video as a backup plan.
    • Please contact your tutors for device return.
    • Thanks to all of you who have completed myExperience so far. If you haven’t completed it yet, please provide your feedback via Moodle log in. We have a 85% response rate and reach milestone 3 (bonus 1.5 marks), and are not far away from milestone 4 (i.e., 100% response rate and bonus 2 marks).

    • We have uploaded final project demo schedule on https://webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/COMP6733/23T2/resources/86681 .
    • The final project report will be due on 17:00:00, 06/08/23, Sunday.
    • We have made progress on myexperience response rate, which stands at 62.5% currently (from 50% on Sunday) and is not far away from the next milestone of 75% completion rate.

    • There is no lecture in Week 10. However, your tutors and I will be available in the lab and lecture slots respectively to answer final-minute project questions.
    • The final project demo will be on 07/08/23.
      • If you have any special requirements on the demo time slot, please send us an email before COB, 31/07/23,
      • If you will hang out with us during lunch time, Please enter your Dietary option before COB, 31/07/23.
    • We would like to extend our thanks to those who have already completed their MyExperience survey. Your input, especially the written feedback, is invaluable for us to reflect on our teaching methods and make further improvements. The current completion rate stands at 50%. Therefore, you will receive at least 1 bonus mark. Let us aim for 1.5 marks (75% completion rate) or even 2 marks (100% completion rate).

  • Project Demo, Report and MyExperience

    1. Thanks to all of you who have completed myExperience so far. If you haven’t yet participated, you can find the myExperience link on your Moodle course page or look for the link in your student email.Your honest and constructive thoughts are valued, and help not only students taking this course, but myself and teaching staff across UNSW to create positive changes in their courses moving forward. Your thoughts also make a difference for the next group of students taking these courses, just as thoughts from students taking courses you plan to take make a difference for you.Please know that myExperience is confidential and your identity is not included in reports. Results of the survey are not made available until your course results are released.
    2. To encourage the participatory rates for MyExperience. We will provide bonus marks for participation with the following equation, i.e., 0.5 mark if MyExperience return rate more than 25%, 1 mark if MyExperience return rate is more than 50%, 1.5 marks if MyExperience return rate is more than 75%, 2 marks if MyExperience return rate is 100%. We have 10% return rate currently.
    3. Project demo, report information is available https://webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/COMP6733/23T2/resources/86681 . If you have any special requirements on the demo time slot, please send us an email before COB, 31/07/23, Monday since we aim to release the demo schedule on Tuesday.
    4. We have a guest lecture from DNA Energy (smart grid energy management) tomorrow, which is followed by course recap. Similar to the guest lecture on Monday, we will distribute a check-in sheet and 0.5 mark will be given to the students that attend the guest lecture on Thursday. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

  • Week 9: Guest lectures and recap

    • We will have two existing guest lectures from DNA Energy and CSIRO respectively this week. As discussed last week, we will provide bonus marks for participation with 0.5 mark for each guest lecture, and will distribute check-in sheets in the lectures to collect attendance rates, and hope to see you there. I will also conclude the course at the end of Thursday's lecture.
    • ProblemSet is due at 17:00, Friday. Labs and consultation are run as usual. Please attend them if you need help/clarification etc. for the ProblemSet (and projects).

  • Guest lectures next week

    • We will have two existing guest lectures from and DNA Energy (a local smart energy management system start-up) and CSIRO (the Australian government scientific research agency, which leads the star fish/ecosystem monitoring project in the Great Barrier Reef) respectively next week.

  • Peer marking

    A friendly reminder that peer marking is mandatory ( https://webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/COMP6733/23T2/outline ), and points may be reduced from progress reports if a significant number (more than 50%) of peer marks are missing from a group.

  • Week 8: Project Progress Presentation

    • We will have proposal progress presentation this week. Similar to the proposal presentation, every team member is expected to present. We have also created a (new) Google form available in the page web above to collect peer marking (one submission per team please). Please don't forget to submit your progress report on Friday (one submission per team please).
    • Although there won't be any new lab materials, your tutors will be available in the lab time between Weeks 8 and 10 to help you with your projects and Problem Sets .

  • Week 5: Project Proposal Presentation

    • We will have proposal presentation this week (each group will have a maximum of 10 minutes' presentation time and please stick to the time limit). Note that every team member is expected to present.     • Lab 3 demo and submission due this week, and Lab 4 will be in Connect IoT to AWS Cloud.
    • I accidentally broke a bone in my right wrist yesterday, and may need to take leave for a few days for a surgery. Please post your questions/request to webcms during this period, and the teaching team will act accordingly. For urgent matters, please email your tutor and copy to cs6733@cse.unsw.edu.au. Sorry for the inconvenience and I appreciate your understanding very much.

    We hope that you had a great long weekend, and welcome to Week 3. Please see below for the course updates.

    • Project groups and topics will be finalised this week. If you don't have a group or your group is missing members, please come to the lecture on Thursday and we will try to match you.
    • In the group page , please make your group visible. If you haven't done so, please express your preference by giving your top-3 projects a score of 1, 2 and 3 where ‘3’ means a project that you most want to do and ‘1’ means a project that you least want to do. We will assign the "orphan" students to random groups with random projects later this week.
    • Lab 1 demo and submission due this week. Lab 2 will be in IoT connectivity (BLE).
    • Problem Set has been released.

Please also come to lecture this afternoon and we will help you to form a group.
    • We will release the lab material for next week ( Lab 2 ) for the early birds.
    • Monday 12/06 is a public holiday, and there will be no lecture and consulation.

    • The lectures are scheduled in Ainswth102 (Monday) and CivEng G1 (Thursday) currently. We are looking forward to meeting you.
    • Based on the MyExperience feedback from previous years, we have a 4-hour lab session each week. However, apart from the demonstration (lab assessment), you are NOT required to attend the full lab sessions.
    • We will use special devices (e.g., Arduino Nano with Bluetooth Low Energy) in the labs, which will be collected from the campus during the first lab session in Week 2. Note that we have replace the sensortags with Arduino Nano based on the myExperience feedback from previous years, where students prefer Python to C, and the programming environments for Arduino Nano and Sensortag are MicroPython and C respectively. Do let us know your experience (e.g., at the end of the term via MyExperience survey).
    • Please complete this short Prior Knowledge survey before Monday when you have a chance.
