    We’ve finalised the marks in SMS (please allow up to 24 hours for the system to sync).

    To reflect the high myExperience response rate (70%), We’ve added a 0.5 bonus mark to your final project result. Additionally, We’ve applied a 0 to 1 bonus mark to your project progress result based on attendance at the Week 9 guest lecture, as per the guidelines shared earlier. Project marks have also been scaled based on peer assessments of individual contributions.

    We are genuinely impressed by the quality of the projects this term. we would like to especially highlight the following outstanding teams (names omitted for privacy):

    • I’m looking forward to your demo today ! You’re also welcome to attend other teams’ demos and offer constructive feedback.
    • Please arrive 30 minutes early to prepare. If you haven’t already, please create a backup video of your demo—just in case
    • Please contact your tutors for device return.
    • If you haven’t completed the Peer Assessment module on Moodle for your group development project, please do so as soon as possible (the deadline is COB today). If you feel that contributions within your group were uneven, make sure to include a clear justification. Since this is the first time we’re offering this feedback channel, we’d love to hear your thoughts—especially on aspects like its frequency, options —via myExperience (see the bullet point below).
    • Thank you to everyone who has already completed myExperience! If you haven’t yet, please log in via Moodle and share your feedback. We currently have a 52% response rate, which means we’ve reached Milestone 2 (bonus 0.5 marks). Let’s aim for Milestone 3 (75% response rate and bonus 0.75 marks)—we’re almost there!

  • Week 10: Project work, Final Project Demo and MyExperience

    1. There is no lecture in Week 10. However, your tutors and I will be available in the lab and lecture slots respectively to answer final-minute project questions.
    2. The final project demo will be on 11/08/25 (Monday).
      • If you have any special requirements on the demo time slot, please send us an email before COB, 05/08/25, Tuesday since we aim to release the demo schedule on Thursday, 07/08/25.
      • If you will hang out with us during lunch time, Please enter your Dietary option before COB, 06/08/25.
    3. Thanks to all of you who have completed myExperience so far. If you haven’t yet participated, you can find the myExperience link on your Moodle course page or look for the link in your student email.Your honest and constructive thoughts are valued, and help not only students taking this course, but myself and teaching staff across UNSW to create positive changes in their courses moving forward. Your thoughts also make a difference for the next group of students taking these courses, just as thoughts from students taking courses you plan to take make a difference for you. Please know that myExperience is confidential and your identity is not included in reports. Results of the survey are not made available until your course results are released.
    4. To encourage the participatory rates for MyExperience. We will provide bonus marks for participation with the following equation, i.e., 0.25 mark if MyExperience return rate more than 25%, 0.5 mark if MyExperience return rate is more than 50%, 0.75 mark if MyExperience return rate is more than 75%, 1 mark if MyExperience return rate is 100%. We have just over 10% return rate currently.
    5. The Peer Assessment for your group development project is now open on Moodle . 1) Choose the "Project Peer Assessment" module. You will assess your teammates based on their contributions to the project, including system design, implementation, testing, documentation, and related project management tasks. 2) Please complete and submit your peer assessment by COB, Monday, 11 August 2025. Only assessments submitted by the deadline will be considered for individual grade adjustments.

  • Guest lectures and recap

    • We will have two existing guest lectures from CSIRO and Vertical Patch respectively this week. As discussed last week, we will provide bonus marks for participation with 0.5 mark for each guest lecture, and will distribute check-in sheets in the lectures to collect attendance rates, and hope to see you there. I will also conclude the course at the end of Wednesday's lecture.
    • ProblemSet is due at 17:00, Friday. Labs and consultation are run as usual. Please attend them if you need help/clarification etc. for the ProblemSet (and projects).
    • The final project demo will be on 11/08/25 (Monday).
      • The marking rubrics for both demo and report have been released.
      • If you have any special requirements on the demo time slot, please send us an email before COB, 06/08/25, Wednesday since we aim to release the demo schedule on Thursday, 07/08/25.

  • Guest lectures next week

    • We will have two existing guest lectures from CSIRO (the Australian government scientific research agency, which leads the star fish/ecosystem monitoring project in the Great Barrier Reef) and Vertical Patch (a local indoor farming start-up) respectively next week.
    • To encourage the participatory rates for the guest lectures, we will provide bonus marks for participation with 0.5 mark for each guest lecture. I will distribute check-in sheets in the lectures to collect attendance rates, and hope to see you there.

  • Week 8: Project Progress Presentation

    • This week, we will be conducting a Proposal Progress Presentation . In line with the initial proposal presentation, we expect each team member to participate in presenting. Additionally, we have introduced a new Google Form, accessible via the link provided on the webpage above, to facilitate the collection of peer evaluations (one submission per team is required). Please ensure to submit your progress report by Friday; again, we require one submission per team.
    • Please note that while there will be no new lab materials, your tutors will remain available during lab hours from Weeks 8 to 10 to mark to mark your lab exercise and assist you with your projects and Problem Sets .

If you are scheduled to present on Monday and are open to swapping your slot to Wednesday, please let us know as soon as possible so we can finalise the schedule.

    Due to ongoing severe weather warnings for tomorrow, Wednesday, July 2, please avoid coming to campus unless absolutely necessary.

  • Week 5: Project Proposal Presentation

    • We will have proposal presentation this week (each group will have a maximum of 10 minutes' presentation time and please stick to the time limit). Note that every team member is expected to present.   • Group Selection and Project Preferences Reminder

    Hi all,

    • If you haven’t joined a group yet, please select one from this page . Make sure to choose a group with fewer than 5 members.
    • Currently, 6 groups have not submitted their project preferences. If your group is one of them, please complete this task using the provided example templates: Template A or Template B .
    • Deadline: Both tasks must be completed by COB (close of business) today, as we will be finalising project allocations this week. Failure to do so may result in being assigned to a random group or having your group allocated a random project.

    • Lecture slides are available.
    • Project groups and topics will be finalised this week. If you don't have a group or your group is missing members, please come to the lecture on Monday and we will try to match you.
    • In the group page , please make your group visible. If you haven't done so, please express your preference by giving your top-3 projects a score of 1, 2 and 3 where ‘1’ means a project that you most want to do and ‘3 ’ means a project that you least want to do. We will assign the "orphan" students to random groups with random projects later this week.
    • Lab 1 demo and submission due this week. Lab 2 will be on Low Power Communications (BLE).

    • The lectures are currently scheduled in Ainsworth G02 on Mondays and Ainsworth 202 on Wednesdays. We’re looking forward to meeting you!
    • Based on MyExperience feedback from previous years, each lab session is 2-hour, supported by two tutors per lab to ensure you get the help you need.
    • In the labs , we’ll be working with special devices such as the Arduino Nano with Bluetooth Low Energy. These will be distributed during the first lab session in Week 2, which will take place on campus. Please note that labs will begin in Week 2 (instead of Week 1) to better accommodate the public holiday (09/06/25).
    • Before Monday, please take a moment to complete this short Prior Knowledge survey when you have a chance.
