  • Practice Exam information + travel update

Posted by Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson Monday 28 July 2025, 12:38:57 PM.

    Dear all,

I hope that everyone is doing well and that you are all enjoying Haris's fantastic lectures!

I have two important announcements for you, the first is with regard to the exam, and the second is with regard to my impending travel to the USA.

Practice Exam - you will receive THREE practice exams on webcms at the end of Week 10. Your final exam will be very similar to these practice exams. There are instructions on the practice exams with regard to how you might use them to best practice for your actual exam. our practice exams will appear on webcms under Course Work>Practice Examinations on the left-hand menu.

Please note that although I had told you that the pass mark for the final exam was 50%, this is now 40%. This is because the passing mark of 40% of the final exam is hard-coded into the course handbook and I cannot change it. So this is bad news for me...but good news for you!

I am travelling to the USA - Due to some very urgent family matters, I must travel to the USA immediately. I am leaving this coming Wednesday July 30, and I am returning on Monday August 18. I am very sorry about this, but I am afraid that it is important. I am there in your lectures with you in spirit, and I shall be available online as usual. Your tutors and I shall be in contact constantly, and I know that all of you will be extremely well! You have been doing brilliantly in your problem sets, and your tutors speak very highly of all of you : )

Okay - study hard, help each other, and practice practice practice....

    All best,

    Seb

    Hi everyone!

I have just now (Monday July 14, 4:03pm) uploaded an updated version of PS5 onto webcms.

The only change made is with regard to Question 1, so that it is a bit easier : )

    All best,

    Seb

  • Well done everyone : )

Posted by Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson Tuesday 08 July 2025, 02:52:45 PM.

    Hi everyone,

I just wanted to send you all a quick note to congratulate you on doing so well in the first half of this course. Thank you for all of your hard work and your excellent questions!

I know that a lot of you will have assessments over the break, but do try to get a little time off as well. Study works best with rest.

Take care, and welcome back in advance for Week 7!

    All best,

    Seb

  • Weather warning WEDNESDAY Lecture and Tutorials

Posted by Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson Tuesday 01 July 2025, 05:06:00 PM.

    Dear All,

Please do not come to campus unless absolutely necessary.

There continue to be severe weather warnings for tomorrow - Wednesday July 2.

All Wednesday tutorials have been moved to online delivery. Your tutors will be in touch shortly.

I shall most likely be in tomorrow anyhow so I shall record my lecture from the lecture theatre as usual. But please do not come in for the sake of the lecture! I have to be on campus anyhow most likely, so recording the lecture in the lecture theatre is the easiest option for me + I live very close to campus.

As with today, please take care and stay safe tomorrow. If this is your first storm in Sydney the please know that this is not a joke. Huge trees can be blown over and the air can be full of debris. Expect that the trains and light rail will stop working and that the roads may well be flooded. The campus was flooded today badly enough as things are. Tomorrow will be worse.

    Very sincerely once again,

    Seb

  • Models (more books on)

Posted by Sebastian Sequoiah-Grayson Tuesday 17 June 2025, 06:48:38 PM.

    Hi everyone,

The following two books have some good sections on models:

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Logic-Wilfrid-Hodges/dp/0141003146/

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Logic-Laws-Truth-Nicholas-Smith/dp/0691151636/

Please note that the Hodges book contains at error on the page at the end covering all tableaux rules, but we are not using tableaux in this course so this should not matter!

    All best,

    Seb

p.s. Thank you for all of your excellent questions today

  • Please submit your answers on Moodle under “Assignments - Problem Set 1”. You may either typeset your answers or do them with a pen/pencil and paper and upload a photograph. All normal file types are accepted.

  • Each question is worth one (1) mark. Each problem set is worth five (5) marks. Each problem set is worth 5% of your final mark.
  • The deadline is strict. All and any late submissions will receive a mark of zero (0%). The only exceptions made will be for those with Equitable Learning Plans.

  • It is your responsibility to check and ensure that the file that you have uploaded to Moodle (1) is the correct file, (2) is a readable file, and (3) has uploaded correctly/is not corrupted. All best,

    Seb
