The Supplementary exam will be Wednesday 13 January, 2021, at 13:00 pm.

The Supplementary exam is an online exam in Moodle.

I will send you another email 15 minutes before the exam is open.

The exam duration will be 2 hours.

Dear COMP9024 Students,

The final exam marks are available on WebCMS3.

The marks of the final exam and the updates of the quizzes, are not available in Moodle. WebCMS3 has the final marks for all assessments.

I would like to congratulate all the students who worked very hard and completed all weekly assessments successfully and especially the assignment.

You can see your marked assignment, with some feedback:

• in WebCMS3 (click on the small arrow in the same row as assn ), or
• by using: 9024 classrun -collect assn

Fifteen cases - tests were used for scoring. The assignment has to pass 10 tests to get the full mark - 10. Five tests have two versions of output (2x5) to cover two possible solutions.

The final exam is an online exam in Moodle on the 30th November at 15:00.

In preparation for the exam please:

• look again at slide 30 of the last lecture
• attempt the practice exam on Moodle
• read the Online Exam Preparation Checklist

A reminder on webCMS will be posted Monday, 30 November, when the exam is open.

Assignment marks and marks updates

The marking of the assignment will take longer. We plan to have the marks ready by the end of next week.

The updates of the marks for the students that have reported the problems will be done soon. It requires manual checking which takes time. The students will be notified via email.

The practice exam is not available on Moodle under “Mock Exam - practice exam”. It will be open until Sunday 12:15 pm.

Prepare your self and when ready, start the practice exam. The practice exam will help you to estimate the required time for the final exam questions.

The Assignment dryrun

The dryrun test is corrected, so that it is the same as in the assignment specification.

Both solutions will be accepted as correct, as long as, your assignment returns correct answer.

Assignment released

The assignment has now been released and can be found on the course webpage under Assignment.

The main topic is problem solving with graph data structures and graph search. Since the assignment gives you a lot of freedom to develop your own approach to the problem, readability of your program will be very important.

Please make sure you follow the practices of good programming principles of structured programming and use good commenting.

The assignment is due on Monday 23 November at 12:00am.

From this week, Week7, until Week10 there will be three Virtual Help labs to offer additional help if you have difficulties with the assignment.

Mid-session test today (Wednesday, 28 October)

Just a reminder that the mid-session test will take place today between 15:00pm and 16:00pm.

• The mid-session test opens at 15:00pm and has a duration of 1 hour from when you start your test.
• The test will automatically close at 16:00pm the latest, which means you must start before 15:00 pm in order to get the full 1 hour.
• There will be 10 questions in the same format as in the Moodle quizzes in this course (mix of: multiple choice with =1 or ≥1 correct answers, numerical answers, short text answer).
• You will need pencil and paper for calculations before answering each question.
• Please be aware that the Moodle server may lag at the very beginning as other students log in. Should this be a serious issue, the time remaining for you to finish the test will be automatically extended.

1. The marks for Question 2 were updated for all that have used the published test file.

2. The marks for Question 3 were updated, for all students that came up with a different, but correct solution, using different assumptions.

Week 3 Results

Week 3 assessment is marked and results are available in WebCMS.

A general comment on the results:

Detecting memory leaks - one of the tests was checking whether all dynamically allocated memory was free()'d.This is very important, so 25% was deducted from the overall result when a program was found to have memory leaks.

A comment on not-marked submissions:

We had problems with automarking a few submissions. Those will be manully checked. The students will be informed via email when the marks and the comments are available.

Week 6 - Flexibility Week

In week 6 the things will be a little different from a normal teaching week.

• There are no Lectures in Week 6
• There will be a Virtual Help lab on Friday, from 17:00 to 19:00 in Week 6

• The Week5 Weekly assessment Part I will be pablished
• The Week5 Weekly assessment is due in Week7.

You will have time to prepare for the MidTermTest.

Keep in mind that this was just a "mock" assessment and "Mark" does not count towards your mark for the weekly assessment component.

two updates on WebCMS3

We have two updates on WebCMS3:

1. Problem Sets

An updated version of the Week 2 Problem Set: Analysis of Algorithms in which all exercises related to Analysis of Algorithm topic is published.

2. Weekly assessments

An updated version of the Week 2 Assessment - questions is published. It includes all related questions - exercises for Analysis of Algorithm topic. This will help you in answering the Quiz qustions.

I will inform you when the Quiz in Moodle will be active and. You will get all instructions how to access it.

Livestream lectures and the lecture recordings

The Livestream lectures

I have prepared a reacquiring livestream lectures on BB Collaborate. For some unknown reason, when our tutor was setting up the Help Sessions, he was able to override the lecture session scheduled for today. We will investigate what happened.

I was also surpassed, as all of you were, that the lectures slot for todays lecturers was not available. I am glad you all found the active season at 15:00 pm and you joined the lectures.

In the left side corner there is an icon with 3 lines, if you click you will see the following: User name, Sessions, Recordings.

Today’s lectures is named “COMP9024 - Help Session 1 / 16/9 lecture”.

All lectures will be recorded and made available. I am working on making all lecture recording available on WebCMS3.

Dear COMP9024 Student,

Welcome to Data Structures and Algorithms.

The first lecture is Monday 14 September 1pm.

The course webpage is webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/COMP9024/20T3/ . Please consult the course outline to learn more about the contents of the course, the assessments and recommended textbooks.

Unfortunately, because of COVID19, still we will not be able to have face-to-face lectures on campus however, we will try to make up for this in COMP9024 as best we can.

We will run our lectures online and the instructions on how to access these will be published on the course webpage. If you ca not attend the lectures, all lectures will be recorded and made available afterwards.

If you have any questions, please post your questions to the forum or email them to me if necessary.
