You can find the specification here on WebCMS under Course Work -> Assignment.
Please read through it carefully. And more than once.
It is due Tue Apr 18 23:59:59 2023 (Week 10).
Be sure to start early, and good luck!
Hello Class,
The mid term quiz is on this week (Week 6), Thursday 23rd 3pm. You will have 1 hour to complete.
On Thursday, go to Moodle site for COMP9024 - the link to the quiz will be clearly visible. The access will open at 3pm.
During the quiz, the Ed Forum will be locked to read-only mode.
You are allowed to access lecture notes and exercise materials linked from WebCMS, but no other materials are permitted.
There are 10 questions (7 MCQ, 2 short (1-2 words) answer, 1 long answer where you may have to write a few sentences)
I got some further information about what is means to use Inspera for the exam platform in a centrally run environment.
For students who are overseas, the exam on Inspera is offered as "Invigilated ZOOM Exams". Zoom invigilated exams are only for international students based overseas, and for ELS students. Any exemptions will be decided by the Exams Team only. All domestic students, Australian citizens/residents and any students in Australia, are expected to attend their on-campus invigilated exams – regardless of whether they have been given approval to attend their classes online.
So if you are overseas, you can take the exam online at the same time as other students in Australia (You will have to accept that it will be invigilated via Zoom - i.e., your camera on).
So the offer of supplementary exam to students who cannot take the central exam is only for those who meets the UNSW supplementary exam policy (e.g., you were too sick to attend).
Hope this satisfies everyone!
Hello Class
Thank you @Tim for setting up the poll.
The exam is on campus - using an exam platform called Inspera. The exam is centrally timetabled and managed by the exam unit and will be invigilated.
For those who are taking this remotely and will not be in Australia by the exam period, I suggest that you should consider your options carefully. We DO NOT offer an online final exam (where you use your own computer to access exam from home). What we will do is to give you a supplementary final exam on campus close to the start of T2. We made this decision because you are fully expected to be on campus by the start of T2 by the university.
The help session schedule for the next few weeks has now been published. You can find it via " Help Sessions " from the course menu. We'll be running a number of on campus sessions using classrooms in the Quad, please bring your own device (BYOD), and online sessions via Blackboard Collaborate. Please take advantage of the sessions, particularly for things like coding issues, as this is where you'll get the best support.
Reminders :
Hi all,
I hope you're settling into week 1 ok!
Important : As you may have noted from the first lecture, the current plan for the final exam is to have it on campus. I know there have been some students with concerns as to whether they'll be able to travel to Australia during the exam period. We're not yet sure whether we'll be able to cater for such students, but I've created a poll asking about your expected circumstances. If you could take 10 seconds to answer it asap that would be greatly appreciated. The sooner we understand your situation, the sooner we can find out what options may be available. You can find the poll here:
https://webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/COMP9024/23T1/acti...
Now, in response to some student feedback, I'll be hosting a live demo over Zoom tomorrow night, Thursday Feb 16, at 6pm to talk through the various CSE systems and walk through the week 1 assessment exercise. You'll be able to access it here:
https://unsw.zoom.us/j/85846202189?pwd=MW10TkV6WWR...
Password: 970338
For those of you can't be with me in real-time I'll record the session and make it available.
If there's anything in particular you'd like me to address please feel free to post on this Ed thread:

And on that topic, about 25% of you are yet to join the course forum. It will be your ally this term, so I'd highly encourage doing it sooner rather than later. Here's the join link:

I hope to see many of you tomorrow!
Tim
Hi all,
I'm Tim, your course administrator. Before the course starts proper and Helen offers an official welcome, I wanted to highlight a few things...
We'll be using Ed Discussions for the course forum. Please join us over there using this link:
https://edstem.org/au/join/2WQzgy
We'd love to learn a few things about you. If you can spare 30 seconds before the first lecture on Tuesday, please respond to these polls:
If you're unfamiliar with the CSE computing environment then you may like to get a jump on looking over the Home Computing guides (also linked from the course menu here on WebCMS):
Enjoy the rest of your weekend / last of your pre-term break!
