    This is to let you know that Quiz#4 due date has been postponed to tomorrow midnight to help students, who mainly missed their Monday Week 10 Lab because of Labour Day public holiday, catch up with the content used in the quiz.

  • Week13 Lab for missing Week10 Lab for Monday Classes

    This is to let you know that there will be make-up labs in Week 13 (same time and venue) for the missing Monday 1 October 2018 Week 10 labs because of Labour Day public holiday. The following five (5) labs are affected:

  • Grieg Overload

    There are many PostgreSQL servers running on Grieg that are idle and unfairly using resources like semaphores. This is preventing other students from starting their servers. Could you please stop your PostgreSQL server when not in use.

    Grieg can not handle more than 300 COMP9311 students all trying to run PostgreSQL servers simultaneously.

    Here are some suggestions to avoid a Grieg meltdown:

    • shut down your servers when not in use
    • change your max_connections setting in /srvr/ YOU /pgsql/postgresql.conf to 4 (and restart the server)
    • install a PHP/PostgreSQL stack on your laptop and work there
    • run your server on a lab workstation *not* on Grieg; this requires
      • run a terminal on the local workstation
      • do not run priv srvr
      • source /srvr/YOU/env
      • pgs start
      • and do not forget to stop the server when you are done

    For some questions, such as Q13, please do assume that ALL InProceedings (regardless if they are in a Proceeding or not) are Publications unless explicitly mentioned otherwise.

    Please also note that these different interpretations of papers (or inProceedings) with null or not null proceeding will be taken into consideration while marking this assignment.
