  • MyExperience Survey and Project marks

    The MyExperience Survey is closing soon. Please help fill out the survey if you have not done. Thanks for your support.

    The project results have also been released on Moodle. Please double-check your marking results and comments. If you believe there are any mistakes (it happens), you can ask to have your results re-evaluated by 9pm Friday (14 Aug). Please raise your concern by directly sending an email to the marking tutor shown in the comments on Moodle. Similar to the assignment 1, you can then contact the course email cs9312@cse.unsw.edu.au if you and the marking tutor cannot reach a consensus.

    Assignment 2 results are expected releasing at the beginning of next week.

  • About MyExperience Survey and Exam

    G'day everyone,

    MyExperience Survey is closing soon, and our response rate is still very low. Please help fill the survey at your convenience.

    We have released a sample exam paper on Webcms for your reference. Details for the final exam will be introduced in today's last lecture. We have settled two offline consultation sessions in the next two weeks. Feel free to come for consultation.

    • Section 1: K17 G01 Consultation Room 14:00 -- 16:00 Monday 10 Aug
    • Section 2: K17 G01 Consultation Room 14:00 -- 16:00 Monday 17 Aug

    We also have some general instructions from the central exam unit to help prepare the Inspera exam, which is shown below.

    Make sure you are exam ready!

    • You need a physical ID card to sit your final exams on campus. Electronic IDs will not be accepted. Your UNSW student ID card, driver's licence or passport will be scanned at the exam venue as part of a new attendance checking process.
      • If you are unable to provide a physical ID card, you may not be able to sit your final exam. You can go to the Student Hub and get a new or replacement student ID card. New ID cards and replacements for expired cards are free; the cost of a replacement student card is $25. The Student Hub is NOT open on Saturdays.
    • Prepare for your Inspera exam on campus:

    • Ensure you know when and where your exam is:
      Understanding your exam timetable PDF
    • And, most importantly, ensure that you have the correct SEB versions (these are different from last Term): SEB for Mac (version 3.5.4)
      SEB for Windows (version 3.10.0) *

    * For Windows – your device can only have one correct SEB version installed. You will need to uninstall the incorrect SEB version prior to the exam.

    During the Term 2 2026 final exam session, an onsite IT Helpdesk will be available to support students from Friday 14 August to Wednesday 26 August . Find it in the John Niland Scientia Building Foyer, G19 on the Campus Map. No booking required!


    Operating Hours:

    • General queries: Monday to Saturday, 10am–12pm and 2pm–4pm
    • Students sitting an exam only: Monday to Saturday, 8.30–10am and 1–2pm

  • Assignment 1 Results Released

    Assignment 1 results are now available on Moodle.

    If you believe there is a mistake in your marking, please email your assigned marking tutor (the email is provided in your feedback) before 9 pm on Thursday, 16 July . Requests submitted after this deadline will not be processed.

    Please do not send messages through other channels. Your marking tutor will verify your request and apply any necessary corrections. If you are not able to reach an agreement for a case, you may contact the course email cs9312@cse.unsw.edu.au for further clarification.

    Solutions for certain topics will be briefly reviewed in Monday's lecture if time permits.

  • COMP9312 Project Released

    Hope you are enjoying your holiday. This email is to inform you that the project has been released. You may check this when you come back in Week 7 if you do not want any course matters bothering you. We will briefly introduce the project problems in Week 7 Monday Lecture.

    The project specification link can be found on webcms .

    The deadline is 9pm Friday 24 July (Week 8). Feel free to let us know if you have any questions. We may update the project page over the next few days to fix unclear descriptions, typos, or other mistakes. Any updates will be listed at the top of the entry page .

  • Assignment 1 Release

    The specification for the first assignment has been released on Webcms. The deadline is 9pm Friday Week 4. We may have some minor updates in the next few days to fix typos or any unclear presentations. Feel free to ask/clarify any details. I will quickly discuss questions in the assignment in Monday lecture.

  • Issue of lecture recording

    Dear students,

    We identified that the slides were not correctly captured in the recording of yestersday's lecture (thanks for several students reminding us). That is because the cable in the classroom was replaced during last few days, which is not compatible with all Mac devices. We have contacted the IT service team to solve the problem. It will be fixed by the next lecture.

    Below is a summary of the Wednesday lecture:

    I first introduce the adjacency list and CSR. They have the same theoretical time complexity in scanning neighbors and checking if an edge exists or not. CSR is terrible to handle updates, because all neigbhors of nodes are placed in a flat array. However, CSR is often used for static data. It has better practical performance than adjacency list because of the CPU cache. In most graph problems, we often need to vist neighbors of nodes agagin and again. When visit neighbors of a node in CSR, some nearby neighbors may also be cached. In that way, if we visit some cached neighbors, the time for reading RAM can be saved.

    Then, we start to fill a form to study the performance of different graph data structure for scaning neighbors, check edge existence, inserting edge, and deleting edge.

    The results of all contect discussed in the lecture can be summarized by the following table. We completed structures related to RDBMS in the Wednesday lecture. We will go through the rest in the next lecture.

    Welcome to COMP9312_26T2 Data Analytics for Graphs . In this opening notice, we outline how the course will be run in 26T2 and provide key information to help you get started.

    Course Webpages

    Lectures

    Lectures are delivered in person, while the recordings of lectures should be available through Moodle → Lecture Recordings . Our first lecture will be in 4pm-6pm next Monday . We will introduce the course in the first lecture. The slides will be uploaded to Webcms in Monday morning.

    Tutorials

    Tutorials begin in Week 2 . All tutorials are in-person, and no recording is available. Note that there is no tutorial on Monday Week 2 because of the public holiday. If you have enrolled any tutorial on Monday Week 2, feel free to attend any other tutorial in Week 2.

    Consultations

    Consultations begin in Week 2 and are face-to-face. You can check Timetable on Webcms for available time slots. Consultations are not recorded . Feel free to join if you have any questions.

    Forum

    We use Discourse for Q&A and peer discussion. The entry link can be bounded in the Webcms menu.

    • Tutors will monitor the forum everyday.
    • You will be automatically registered upon your first login.

    Updates

    Compared with previous terms, we add more examples and demo codes in certain topics, including graph neural networks, subgraph enumeration algorithms, etc.
