Dear All,
The second coding project has been released!
It’s recommended that you watch the lecture recordings and complete Labs 5, 7, and 8 before starting the project.
There will be no lecture or lab in Week 6. Enjoy your recess week, and see you all in Week 7!
Regards,
Xubo
Great news! After several emails with ITU and the CSE TSA, the Echo360 recording is now working again. The audio quality in the Collaborate recordings is still not ideal due to echo in the large theatre room — unfortunately, there’s no fix for that at the moment.
I’ve done my best to follow up on this issue over the past weeks, but since it was a technical problem on the university’s side, it was outside my control. Thanks for your understanding! Apologies for the inconvenience this term, and thanks to the students who contacted the University to help speed up the process.
A reminder that the project is due next Monday. If you haven’t completed the labs (including Lab 4), please do those first — we’ve released the solutions for your reference.
If you have any questions, please post on the Ed forum or attend a lab session for longer questions. Keep in mind that we can’t debug your code for you. Enjoy!
Dear All,
The first coding project has been released already on Ed, and you need to use the knowledge learned in weeks 2 and 3 to complete the project.
Labs 2, 3, and 4 aim to help you work on this project. If you can understand the solutions to the lab problems, you should have no problem completing the project on Hadoop MapReduce.
Regards,
Xubo
Hi all, Ed envorinment has been fixed. 🎉
Please complete the lab practices on the Ed platform first.
If you have extra time, then you can try installing on your own laptop.
Again, to finish this course, Ed platform is enough.
Hi everyone, good to see you today!
We’re still waiting for Ed support to fix the environment, and we hope it will be resolved soon.
Once it’s fixed, we’ll post an update here. Apologies for the inconvenience in the meantime.
For those with labs today, you’re welcome to try installing on your own laptop first.
Instructions are available under
Labs → Week 1

Hi Class,
Welcome to the course COMP9313! We hope you look forward to learning about big data management. This opening notice outlines how the course will run in T3 2025.
Course Webpages We manage the course with WebCMS3, Ed forum and Moodle. If you’re reading this notice, congrats, you’ve found us. All announcements and lecture notes are going to be posted here. Since we will use Ed platform to practice instead of installing the virtual machine yourself, lab notes and project specs will be released on Ed forum. Moodle is used to provide access to online live lectures and lecture recordings.
Lecture The lectures will be delivered in person. There will also be online lectures streaming via Blackboard Collaborate. You can find the link in Moodle.
Lecture Recording All lectures will be recorded and uploaded onto Echo360, which can be found through the links (Lecture Recordings) in Moodle.
Discussion Forum We will still use Ed for the course forum/discussion board this semester. You have to register yourself first. The forum link and instructions are linked on the WebCMS3 menu.
Lab Note that labs start from Week 1 . As mentioned, we will use Ed for lab practices. Please register yourself using the link above.
Consultation Weekly consultation will be presented online via Blackboard Collaborate from Week 1. You may join the consultation if you have any questions regarding the course.
Other than that ... nothing much you need to do until show up in lecture next week!
Look forward to meeting you all soon :-)
The teaching team of COMP9313
