  • Exam Pointers

Posted by Xiangjun Zai 11 days ago.

You will log in to the exam environment using your zID and zPass (the password you use for your student email).

The exam environment is essentially VLAB. If you're not familiar with VLAB, please try accessing VLAB using TigerVNC and get familiar before the exam.

Please check your assigned exam location through the email from the school. Ensure you arrive at the correct venue at the correct time .

Please bring your student card. If you don't have one, ... or bring photo ID (e.g. driver's licence, passport), but we'll want to know why you don't have a student card.

Apart from the exam paper (in the same format as the sample exam paper) and templates for the answers, you'll have the Reference Sources (refer to Week 10 slides for more details). You'll also have a sheet of paper on which to sign your name so we can check against the signature on your photo ID, and on which you can scribble. You can also bring a pen/pencil.

You cannot bring notes, calculators, watches, mobile phones, earbuds, headphones, laptops, tablets, etc., etc.

    Best regards,

    COMP9315 Team

  • Welcome to COMP9315 25T1

Posted by Xiaoyang Wang 3 months ago.

    Hi Class,

Welcome to the course COMP9315! I hope you look forward to learning about DBMS implementation. In this opening notice, I outline how the course will run in T1 2025.

About the Course COMP9315 is a course on the internals of classical relational database management systems. It assumes that you know about relational databases from the user side (e.g. COMP9311 or COMP3311), but much more importantly, it assumes that you have a sound knowledge of data structures for searching such as trees and hash tables (e.g. COMP9024 or COMP2521) and are a very confident and competent C programmer. Both assignments require you to write C code, and the exam requires you to write C code.

Course Webpages We manage the course with WebCMS3 and Moodle . If you’re reading this notice, congrats, you’ve found us. All announcements, lecture notes, assignment specs, etc, are going to be posted here. Moodle is used to provide access to online live lectures, lecture recordings, and assignment submissions.

Lecture The lectures will be delivered in person (Tue/Thu). There will be online streaming lectures via Blackboard Collaborate at the same time. You can find the link in Moodle.

Lecture Recording All lectures will be recorded and uploaded onto Echo360, which can be found through the links (Lecture Recordings) in Moodle.

Lab/Tutorial There is no lab or tutorial for the course.

Consultation Weekly consultation will be presented in-person and online via Blackboard Collaborate from Week 1. You may join the consultation if you have any questions regarding the course.

Discussion Forum We will use Ed for the course forum/discussion board. You have to register yourself first . The forum link and instructions are linked on the WebCMS3 menu .

Exam Note that, this course cannot be taken remotely. In particular you are required to attend the exam in person in the CSE labs where your work will be monitored (invigilated), in a closed environment (i.e. no internet access). If the above does not appeal to you, don't take this course.

Other than that ... nothing much you need to do until you see me on Tuesday!

Best of luck, and I look forward to meeting you all soon!

    Xiaoyang Wang
