Posted by Morty Al-Banna Thursday 16 April 2020, 03:35:59 PM, last modified Thursday 16 April 2020, 03:41:17 PM.

    Dear all,

for the Final exam of COMP9321 it has bee scheduled at Tuesday the 5th of May 2020 . Please be advised for the following:

    1. It is an All Day Exam (You have 24 hours to submit your answers) this is to accommodate the students that are currently out of the country with different time-zones.
    2. the Exam consists of Two Parts:
      • Part1 MCQ : We will use Moodle Quiz and the question Bank so that we can have MCQ that are distributed randomly to the students and since the Quiz open for 24 hours so that minimize the issues with unreliable network. the Link to the Quiz on Moodle will be visible to the students on the time of the exam.
      • Part2 Written Answers Questions: We will have the exam paper with questions that require long written answers released to the students on the time of the exam through WebCMS. the students will answer the questions and submit a PDF file using the Give System before the deadline of the exam. No late penalty and the submissions after the deadline is marked as zero. We will use Turnitin to check for plagiarism.

We will have a mock exam with examples in Week10 so that you will have better idea how the exam is going to be.

P.S. I have added this announcement in "Discussion of Course Changes" thread so if you have any comment, feedback and/or question you can follow up there ( https://webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/COMP9321/20T1/resources/44527 )

  • Waiving the Late Penalty for Assignment3

Posted by Morty Al-Banna Wednesday 15 April 2020, 01:55:20 PM.

    Dear All,

We have received multiple request for extending the deadline for assignment3. Unfortunately we can't extend the deadline since this will make providing the marking before the exam impossible (it is currently very challenging but we will try our best).

What we can do is waiving the late submission penalty. Pay attention to something here: any submission after the 24th of April WILL NOT be marked.

    best of luck to all...

  • Clarification about the Impact of COVID-19 on the Course

Posted by Morty Al-Banna Monday 13 April 2020, 08:05:17 PM.

    Dear All,

Just to clarify in regard to the impact of COVID-19 on the course. Nothing has changed to what I have announced before. We could not build a case for relying on the old evaluation system and hence COMP9321 is moving to the SY/FL system. I believe the school already sent a communication about this to all students. For any questions about the impact of these changes to your WAM please refer to the e-mail circulated by the faculty/school and check ( https://student.unsw.edu.au/grade/changes ).

As mentioned before there is NO DOUBLE pass requirement for COMP9321 (this has not changed and will not change). To get SY/FL, it is due to accumulation of all the assessment items (Quizzes+Assignments+final exam).

Please refer to the previous post for more details about the final exam ( https://webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/COMP9321/20T1/resources/43961 )

    Best of luck to all...

  • Changes on Final Exam and how the COMP9321 is going to be Evaluated

Posted by Morty Al-Banna Thursday 26 March 2020, 02:06:57 PM, last modified Thursday 26 March 2020, 02:56:06 PM.

    Dear All,

Due to the COVID-19 situation some changes are to be made for the final exam and how the course is going to be marked. There has just been a faculty decision that engineering courses, except for project/thesis courses, will move to pass/fail (SY/FL) by default. COMP9321 is to follow this decision.

for the final exam, and after checking the feedback and suggestions from students and teaching staff, the following adjustments are proposed:

    1. It is a 24 hours long exam in order to accommodate the students that are currently out of the country with different time-zones.
    2. We will use Moodle Quiz and the question Bank so that we can have MCQ that are distributed randomly to the students and since the Quiz open for 24 hours so that minimize the issues with unreliable network.
    3. We will have the exam paper with questions that require long written answers released to the students on the time of the exam through WebCMS. the students will answer the questions on a rich text documents and submit the file using Give before the deadline of the exam. No late penalty and the submissions after the deadline is marked as zero.
    4. We will use Turnitin to check for plagiarism since the answers are on the level of having enough text making this realistic.

Please feel free to comment and provide feedback about the above mentioned

    regards,

  • Live Q&A and other remote support methods

Posted by Morty Al-Banna Wednesday 25 March 2020, 11:39:04 AM.

    Dear All,

after looking at the poll results and although the majority of the class has not participated for this week the live Q&A for the lectures will be conducted after the lecture time (i.e., Wednesday 9PM-10PM and Thursday 8PM-9PM). definitely if you can't make it to the time also feel free to post your question on the relevant resource.

The way to keep things manageable and easy to find for all students reference is that you post your question as a comment on the lecture slides and during the mentioned time I will be there and answer your question.

if you require to meet virtually to ask questions or have a discussion then I'm also available on Microsoft Teams the same COMP9321 labs space. Send me an e-mail with COMP9321 in the subject of the email (m.al-banna@unsw.edu.au) to specify a time. also if I'm avilable online on the channel just remember to use @Morty... to select my name so I will get a notification.

By the way feel free to comment here and provide feedback about the way we are delivering lectures, Lab consultations, Q&A...etc. we really appreciate your feedback about what is working and what you think can be done better/differently.

Posted by Morty Al-Banna Tuesday 25 February 2020, 05:48:32 PM.

    Dear All,

Just a follow-up about what I mentioned in the first lecture regarding the students affected by the travel restriction. What I mentioned is an advise, we will not force anyone out off the course. In terms of assessment items the Quizzes and Assignments can be submitted online. the final exam require your physical presence though.

We have tried to make the hands-on activities self-explanatory, so that you can do them on your own time and come to consultation labs only if needed. So for students affected by the travel resections if you are confident you can do the activities on your own time and rely on the remote support we provide through WebCMS, then the decision is yours to continue in the course. We will do our best to provide suport for all stduents on and off campus.

Hope this make things more clear...

    best of luck to all,
