Assign 3 Marks

Dear All,

Assignment 3 marks and feedback are available now, and you can check your mark using the following command on CSE lab machines:

9321 
9321 classrun -sturec 

You should check the following fields:

• "assign3_ml" and "assign3_ml_feedback" (out of 10 for classification and regression task)
  
• "assign3_notebook_mark" and "assign3_notebook_feedback" (out of 5 for the analysis - notebook)

• Your mark for the machine learning part is based on the following dataset

• You can use the same traning dataset to train your model and check
• Your reassessment request will be denied if ( According to the spec ) :
  • You failed to submit your assignment
  • You get zero mark if your output files do not follow the given instructions (zid_regression.csv and zid_classfication.csv)
  • Your submission is penalized 1 mark for every mintue if it takes more than 2 minute to finish generating the outputs. If it is taking more than 12 mintues you basically losing the mark for ML sections
  • Your mark is based on the F1 Macro and RMSE which are calculated based on your output files (zid_regression.csv and zid_classfication.csv) not what your print out in your code.

Second Milestone achieved, 2 day late penalty waived for Assignment3

Dear All,

Thanks for all the students that have participated in the MyExperience survey. it is my pleasure to announce that we have achieved the second milestone and now you have a guaranteed waiver for 2-day late penalty. Effectively this mean that if you submit by the Saturday 15/11/2025 18:00, there will be no late penalty.

We will make another announcement if another milestone is achieved and more late penalties are waived. Next target is 50% :)

Waiving the late penalty for Assignment3 based on the MyExperience Survey participation

Dear All,

First, I would like to thank all the students who have participated in the MyExperience survey. In order to motivate the remaining students to participate we decided to tie the level of participation to waiving the late penalty for assignment3.

Based on the level of participation in the MyExperience survey, we will waive the late penalty as below:

• If we reach 20% participation, we will waive the late penalty for all the students being 1 day late.
• If we reach 40% participation, we will waive the late penalty for all the students being 2 days late.
• If we reach 50% participation, we will waive the late penalty for all the students being 3 days late.
• If we reach 70% participation, we will waive the late penalty for all the students being 5 days late.

Pay attention that we are NOT extending the deadline . No Matter which condition is met, if you submit your answers after 5 days of the original deadline (without approved extension) your submission will NOT be marked.

We will make an announcement to share the participation level when a millstone is reached, so you will have an idea of what condition is met. This is an interesting case of how the community can come together to support each other. So even if you do not need the additional time, you might think of participating to help your fellow classmates. (Yes, we are being cheeky here 😊). Remember to share with us what you liked, and what you want us to improve. We really appreciate all feedback.

Welcome to Week2 of COMP9321 and Important update about the Lecture Time this week

***IMPORTANT UPDATE***Before going to the regular announcement, I just wanted to notify everyone that this week's Lectures (for both Wednesday AND Thursday) will be delivered (7:00-9:00PM). Apologies for the change. This is for this week only . The lecture will be Live from 7-9PM and will be recorded as usual.

Welcome to Week2 of COMP9321. I hope you will enjoy the ride.

For this Week, we are going to continue with Data Access and how to store the Data Accessed, learn about NoSQL Databases, then we dive deeper into how you can perform some basic data cleansing (cleaning) and explore your dataset to grasp some understanding.

The Lab activities for Week2 are now available. We encourage you to do them at your own convenience and check the sample solutions if needed. Please note that there might be more than one correct solution for an activity. Remember that we have consultation labs for everyday of the week (starting today). Check the timetable section in WebCMS or the post in ED for the times. Lab activities are not marked and attending the labs is not mandatory, but the lab activities are super important to help you get the required knowledge and skills to solve the assignments. For Attending the consultation labs, head to the Course MS Teams Lab channel on the designated time.

I can see some conversations in ED Stream’s forum. Please keep the questions coming and when you see a classmate asking a question that you know the answer for, don’t be shy, and contribute to the community.

The COMP9321 teaching team is always rooting for you and here to help. Do not hesitate to use the forum to ask as many questions you like or contact us via the course email.

Welcome to Week1 of COMP9321

Dear All,

Welcome to COMP9321 (Data Services Engineering). I hope that you are excited as we are for the first lecture on Wednesday at 2:00PM (Sydney time). the First lecture will be for an overview of the course and introduction to the subject of Data Services Engineering. Please check the course provisional outline here .

For the offering of 2025T3 please be advised for the following:

• The final exam weight is 50% and the exam will take place on campus during the exam period. We are going to use Inspera as the exam platform, and the exam will be conducted in-person on UNSW campus.
• The Delivery of the Lectures and the consultation labs are online via MS Teams. The lecture will be recorded and made available after the lecture.
• We have lab activities and walkthroughs that we will share the details in WebCMS and during the lecture.
• We will also have consultation labs, that we will run every day of the week starting week2. The intention is to provide additional support for the lab activates and the assignments. The schedule of the consultation labs will be made available in WebCMS. We are also using MS Teams for the consultation labs
• All the students have been added automatically to the course MS Teams Space, please if you are not added, contact us ASAP.
• We will be using Ed Stream as our Q&A Forum. All students will be added in Ed.
• We have got a 6-month subscription to DataCamp for free to students in COMP9321. Using DataCamp is purely optional as an external resource. To join the course in DataCamp please use the link in the poll. Make sure that you have joined the 2025T3 space.
