    The project marks are now available.

    I will be emailing you a short report with tells you:

    • The number of auto-tests that your code passed. This is out of 16 and will be scaled to 15 for calculating your project mark.
    • Your report mark. This is out of 15.
    • Your project mark before late penalty (if any) is applied.
    • Your mark after late penalty if it applies.
    • Any comments on the mistakes that you have made.

    In order for you to better understand those comments, I will create a thread on the course forum which explains the common problems that are found in the project. I aim to get the emails and forum thread out by today. I would appreciate if you read the forum thread before making any query.

  • Safe exam browser for Inspera (especially if you are a Mac user)

    Please be reminded that you must install the Safe Exam Browser (SEB) on your laptop before attending the Inspera based exam. You can find the links to the installation programs for Windows and Mac OS X at the "Additional Information on Exam" page located under Week 10's lecture.

    Unfortunately I was given the wrong link for the Mac version earlier. I have now corrected the link. If you are a Mac user, please make sure that your SEB version is 3.3.3.

  • Sample exam solution / pre-exam consultation / MyExperience

    Please note that I have released the solution to the sample exam. You can locate it under "Course Work" in the main menu on the course website.

    I have also put the times for the pre-exam consultation on the course website under "Timetable".

    Thank you to those students who have completed the MyExperience survey. If you haven't done so, I would appreciate if you could fill it in to provide us feedback.

  • End of term / project / sample exam

    We would like to inform you of the following:

    • Lectures : There will be 2 more lectures till the end of term: Tue of Weeks 9 and 10. Note that both Fri of Weeks 9 and 10 are public holidays so we won't have any more Friday lectures. Tue of Week 10 will be the last lecture for this course.
    • Exam : I will provide more information on exam in the lecture on Tue of Week 10.
    • Sample exam : I will provide a sample exam in Week 10.
    • Project : The project spec has been updated a few times. You may want to check out the latest.
    • General feedback on level of explanation needed : I have posted a thread in the forum with this title (this thread is pinned so it is at the top) and it is important for you to read.

  • Project updates / exam info

    Please note that the project spec may be updated for various reasons, e.g., missing info, corrections. You should check the project page from time to time to check for updates.

    The COMP9334 exam will be held during the exam period of this term.

    The exam is in-person and invigilated. The university will run the exam.

    You will take the exam on a web-based exam platform called Inspera. We will provide an Inspera-based sample exam.

    The project is now available. To view it, go to the course website and look for the Project link on the menu.

    The project is on discrete event simulation. We will completed our lectures on discrete event simulation on Friday of Week 5 so you are ready to work on the project after that.

  • Assignment submission system up again

    The system admin has fixed the assignment submission system just now. You should be able to submit your assignment now.

    Unfortunately, there is an issue with the assignment submission system at the moment which means new submissions cannot be accepted. I will ask the system admin to look into it urgently tomorrow and to get it fixed. I will send a notice once it is up and running again. My apologies for the inconveniences caused.

    Please note that the late penalty computed by WebCMS3 can sometimes be slightly different from the true penalty. If your submission was late, the mark given in the link above is the correct mark.

    If you have questions on the assignment, you can ask on the forum or attend a consultation. Please be reminded that if your forum question contains any part of your solution, then you should make it a private message.

  • Assignment (Part A) is now available

    The COMP9334 Assignment has 2 parts (Parts A and B) which have different weighs and deadlines. Part A of the assignment (which is worth 2% of the overall assessment and is due at 5pm on Thur of Week 3) is now available. It is important that you read all the rules regarding the assignment which are stated on the Assignment (Part A) page.

    Assignment (Part A) is located at the course WebCMS3 page under the menu item "Activities".



  • Lecture recordings

    It appears that some students have difficulty accessing the lecture recordings via Moodle. On the Lectures page on the course website, i have added links to view the lecture recordings without having to go through Moodle.

    I am writing to you regarding two aspects of the course.

    Lecture recording : You can access the lecture recordings by going to the Moodle site for COMP9334 and click on the lecture recoding icon.

    Forum : We will be using the Ed forum for course discussion. If you head to the course website ( http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~cs9334 ) and click on the "Forum" menu item, you will find instructions to enrol yourselves in the forum.

    Dear All,

    Welcome to COMP9334! I would like to draw your attention to the following:

    1. The course website is located at: http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~cs9334 . I suggest that you bookmark the page. You will need to login using your zID to view the course materials.
    2. The course outline is now available. You can access it by going to the course website and then look for "Course Outline" on the menu on the left.
    3. Both the in-person and online lectures will run at the same time: Tue 16-18 and Fri 14-16.
      • The in-person lectures are at June Griffith M18 (Tue) and O'Shane 103 (Fri).
      • The online lectures will use Zoom; you can find the Zoom log-in detail by going to the "Lectures" page on the course website.
      • Lectures will be recorded and made available.
    4. The lecture materials for Week 1 have been posted. See Lectures page on the course website.

    I look forward to exploring capacity planning with you this term. See you in-person or online on Tuesday.
