  • GitHub Classroom Issue

Posted by Rachid Hamadi Tuesday 22 February 2022, 07:08:35 PM.

    Dear All,

For students who are still experiencing issues joining GitHub classroom, try to join the GitHub Classroom now by either clicking on your zID if it is unlinked or click on "Skip to the next step" (if it is already linked to your GitHub account) where you will have a choice of joining an existing team (if your team was already created by another member) or creating a new team (if your team is not yet created). I believe the issue we were experiencing was due to GitHub Classroom not working properly and not to the fact that your GitHub account is not primarily linked to your UNSW email.

  • Link your GitHub Account to your UNSW Email

If you are experiencing issues joining GitHub classroom, try to make sure that your GitHub account is primarily linked to your UNSW email. You can link more than one email to your GitHub account, just add your UNSW email and make it primary.

  • Projects and Labs

Posted by Rachid Hamadi Sunday 13 February 2022, 04:52:37 PM.

    Dear COMP3900/9900 Students,

I hope you are all safe and doing well.

Please note that you will be working on a project in a team of ideally five (5) members from your lab under the supervision of a mentor/tutor that checks on your project progress on a weekly basis. Lab attendance is mandatory and will be recorded weekly.

Please do have a look at the available somehow generic projects under Projects page to choose from or come up with your custom/own project subject to mentor/lecturer approval. If you want to work on a custom/own project, a Custom/Own Project Request Form need to be sent to your mentor by end of Week 1 .

Please also note that labs or mentoring sessions start in Week 1 . It is very important that you turn up during Week 1 labs for team formation , project selection , and project brainstorming .

Use the forums I created for each lab under Teams Formation Forums page to help with group formation. Once you have found some group members in your enrolled lab, please do coordinate with those members to use the " + Create " button on the Groups page to create a group, and then register current members within the created group. Group members can also click " + Join " on the created group to join. One member should be the Admin (or Scrum Master ).

For the team/group name, please ensure you include your course code (only the last four digits) and enrolled lab code as a prefix. For instance, if your course is COMP3900 and your lab code is T10A , and you called your group Fantastic Five , then your full group name in WebCMS (and in Jira and GitHub Classroom ) would be 3900-T10A-Fantastic Five . This will help you keep track of group members, and others to see what groups have already started forming in their lab.

See you tomorrow Monday 14 February 2022 at 6pm online using Blackboard Collaborate (the link is in Moodle) for our first lecture. Please also note that the ONLINE mentoring sessions will also run using Blackboard Collaborate as well.

    Thank you.

    Best regards,
    Rachid
