  • Project Implementation Guide released (30% of grade).

Posted by William Chan Thursday 02 July 2026, 09:00:03 PM.

    Hi everyone,
The project implementation assessment guide has now been released on WebCMS which can be found in the Project section under Project Implementation. You should read through the guide carefully as it contains important details about the nature of the task and its marking. There are two main tasks: first is a project repository submission (which will be opened at a later date) which is due by 11:59 PM Fri Week 10. In addition, each member must complete the individual contribution form to ensure marks are distributed fairly. The second is an in-person viva, whereby you will demonstrate your project. Vivas (20–30 min/group) run in Week 11/12, with a booking form to follow on a first-come-first-served basis. Make sure to come ready to explain your own work, as you're questioned individually which will affect your marks.

  • Design presentation give deadline issue

Posted by Hasindu Gamaarachchi Monday 29 June 2026, 05:27:21 PM.

    Dear all,

Please do not worry if you submitted your design presentations on time before the deadline (Sunday 11.59 pm) and still see that it is xx hours late. This is due to a misconfiguration in the specification file for give, and I apologise for the inconvenience. So please ignore that late submission notice. Please be assured that we will not penalise this as long as the actual submission was done by Sunday 11.59 pm.

    Cheers

You should be now able to see your marks for lab 1 in Give .

That way, I can accomodate any changes for the upcoming weeks, where possible.

    Cheers

Posted by William Chan Monday 15 June 2026, 08:03:55 PM, last modified Monday 15 June 2026, 08:05:14 PM.

    Hi everyone,

Here are some important updates regarding the Design Presentation assessment. The design presentation marking assessment guide is now out on WebCMS named Design presentation assessment guide , with the presentations to be delivered during normal lecture times in week 5, either Monday 9:00-11:00 or Thursday 16:00-18:00, depending on your allocated time slot, which is visible under the Design Presentation heading titled Project Presentation Allocation Slot . If you are unable to attend your assigned session due to an unavoidable clash, arrange with another group who is willing to swap and please contact me (William Chan) via Teams or email z5481729@ad.unsw.edu.au and inform me of the group that will swap with you by the end of this week.

There is also a Design presentation team evaluation for you to fill out after the presentation which is due Friday of Week 5, to ensure equal contribution from each member of your group. Furthermore, there is a list of all the groups to check your teammates’ names and zids called Groups List .

Finally, Week 3’s lab is out.

That’s it for now, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me or ask during the labs, have a great rest of the week!

  • NFC RFID Wireless Modules

Posted by Hasindu Gamaarachchi Wednesday 03 June 2026, 07:32:13 PM, last modified Wednesday 03 June 2026, 07:33:07 PM.

    Hi all,

Tomorrow we have the second lecture from 4.00pm-6.00pm at the Tyree Energy Technology LG07 (K-H6-LG07), which is next door to the Monday lecture theatre.

I will be giving you the NFC RFID Wireless Modules, which you will be using for the project.

Please make sure to read the project brief and the design journal assessment before coming.

  • Design Journal Assessment

Posted by Hasindu Gamaarachchi Monday 01 June 2026, 11:47:03 PM.

    Dear all,

The design journal assessment details are now available on webCMS . Please post any questions on the forum or ask during the lectures.

Also, as I (stream coordinator) mentioned during the lecture, the project brief is available at webCMS . Please read this carefully before coming to the next lecture on Thursday.

The lecture recordings are available through echo 360 . However, please note that my lectures are conducted in person, and as this is a project-based course, sessions will be activity-driven. As a result, echo360 cannot fully capture the learning experience. Even when recordings are available, the quality may vary due to limitations of echo360 and the recording system: e.g., whiteboard content can sometimes appear blurry, and microphone audio may be low at times. These recordings are intended only as a supplementary resource for review and should not be relied upon as a substitute for attending in-person lectures.

In addition to all of the above, some faculty-wide design content supplied by Ilpo Koskinen (course convenor) is available on Moodle . There are only two lectures for design content, and both of them are recorded videos. These two videos have been uploaded to the same echo360 link above.

    Cheers

At this first lecture, I will demystify the structure of DESN2000, and then we will get onto some important activities such as getting started with the development board, forming your groups, etc. So make sure you attend the lecture in person.

Before coming to the lecture, could you please install STM32CubeIDE and STM32CubeMX on your laptop? - see details here . We will be using this software throughout the course.

    See you tomorrow.

  • Welcome to DESN2000 (Computer Engineering)

Posted by Hasindu Gamaarachchi Thursday 28 May 2026, 09:22:11 PM.

Welcome to DESN2000 (Computer Engineering). I am the stream coordinator for the Computer Engineering stream (COMPBH or COMP). We will be using this webCMS to host the course material for our stream. For discussion, we are planning to use this Discourse forum .

This is NOT for the Software Engineering (SENG) stream or the Bioinformatics Engineering (BINF) Stream. The stream coordinator for SENG is Morty Al-Banna and for BINF it is Dr Sara Ballouz .
