Hi everyone,
There's 5 minutes left of the exam.
Please make sure you've submitted your work.
Good luck with the rest of your exams and I hope you have a restful and healthy break.
Sim.
If you submitted your exam via e-mail, please check the list below to ensure I received your submission. E-mail me at cs1010@cse.unsw.edu.au if you expected to be on this list and you're not.
Hi everyone,
I'm really sorry that there were submission problems throughout the night. Thank you so much to Kai for keeping an eye on the forum, sorting out the problem, and keeping you all updated!!
From what I've heard the submission system is working again.
If you submit a .zip file you can have your .css file in a static folder. Otherwise, just submit the 3 files.
I will try and send a confirmation email to everyone we received submissions from, as soon as I can, and then do another batch just after 8am. This way if anyone attempted to submit but it wasn't received, we can sort it out as soon as possible.
Regards,
Sim.
Hi everyone,
If you go to the Exam Information page on the course website there is a link that will let you access the exam paper. Please ensure you read and understand all exam rules .
Good luck!
Sim
In the lead-up to tomorrow's exam, I'd like to ensure you're all aware of the rules regarding what would be considered plagiarism and academic misconduct.
This exam is to be completed individually. Group submissions will not be allowed. Your program must be entirely your own work. Plagiarism detection software will be used to compare all submissions pairwise and serious penalties will be applied, particularly in the case of repeat offences.
Do not copy ideas or code from others.
Do not use a publicly accessible repository or allow anyone to see your code.
The only exception to this is that you may access, use and adapt any of the lecture, tutorial and lab material from COMP1010 21T2.
Please refer to the on-line resources to help you understand what plagiarism is and how it is dealt with at UNSW:
I've updated the exam information to include how to ask questions during the exam.
Please ignore the announcement on the forum (now deleted, though it was e-mailed out to you before I deleted it) saying to post questions in a specific thread. Our new approach is that questions should be posted as individual threads in the 'Exam' category.
I've updated the Exam Information document. It can be found here and also in the left-hand menu.
The only thing still tentative about it, is how to ask clarification questions during the exam. I will update you when I've finished making those decisions.
Hi Everyone,
I’ve released the grades for your prototypes. You can see your results by clicking on the little graph next to your name on the left-hand panel of the course website (the Grades button). If any of your grades are missing or you have further questions, you can contact myself at cs1010@cse.unsw.edu.au or your tutor via their e-mail.
It’s worth noting that we are still investigating some cases of plagiarism.
I hope your exams are all going well.
Regards,
Sim.
Hi everyone,
You can expect to receive the marks for your prototypes on or by Wednesday next week.
Best of luck with your studying and exams.
Hi everyone,
I'm not going to be replying to messages anymore tonight.
If you're project is too big to submit, please submit your assignment in 2 parts:
1. Submit formally via the project submission page here: your code and a .txt document with a url for where to find part 2...
2. A Google Drive folder with any extra resources required for your project (images, or whatever else is making your submission too big to submit in one part).
Please ensure that the main part of your work, the code you wrote for the project, is submitted via the assignment submission page.
Regards,
Sim.
Hello everyone,
And so begins our final week of classes.
Your tutorial for this week has been released and can be found here .
Remember, there is no lab work for this week. Instead, make sure you've gotten week 9's lab marked, and then you can use the extra time to work on the assignment.
Your proposals have also been e-mailed to you. Inside the document you will find your grades and sometimes some feedback. Please ensure your grade has been entered into the system (as well as all your grades for labs). You can do this by clicking on the little graph picture next to your name at the bottom of the left-hand column of this website.
Questions about grades:
I'll see you in our revision lecture on Tuesday.
Sim. :)
Kahoot links are now being posted here: https://webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/COMP1010/21T2/reso...
This document is not final or complete. Minimal changes will be applied, and only where necessary.
The exam should take you less than 3 hours to complete.
If I understand correctly, you will be able to download the exam paper anytime after 8am on Friday 20th August. You will then need to submit your exam anytime before 8am on Saturday 21st August.
There will definitely (95% sure) be:

Marks may be deducted for not following the code style for the course specified here: https://webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/COMP1010/21T2/resources/62478
If you'd like to read through and attempt some of the revision questions I've collected, you can view them here: https://colab.research.google.com/github/sim-mautn...
Part 1 - I was planning to release some recorded revision content to you tonight. Unfortunately I've been having some technical problems recording, so I won't be able to do that. I am sorry.
Part 2 - Tomorrow (Tuesday), 1pm-2pm will go ahead as planned via Zoom (the usual link).
I will do my best (covid situation allowing) to release more recorded revision material to you throughout the week.
There will be a revision lecture this week.
Part 1 will be released on Monday night and will be about 50 minutes, recorded, of me going through some exercises. The intention is that students will have the opportunity to watch this during 12pm-1pm on Tuesday, and so be ready for... part 2.
Part 2 will be live (via the usual Zoom link), 1pm-2pm on Tuesday , and will give students to ask questions about the first hour of the lecture, ask more specific questions, and watch demonstrations live.
Reminder: There is no lecture on Wednesday.
(For those who are interested, my inability to give a 2hr live lecture this week is a consequence of the covid situation in Sydney and lockdown. I hope that the solution I've come up with above means that I'm still able to deliver a similar quality of content to what I had hoped for.)
Hi everyone,
I've been busy setting things up for our first lecture on Tuesday.
To attend the lecture (online) click on the Online Classes tab on the course web page. (Or follow the link here .) About 10-15 minutes before the start of the lecture, a link will appear in the Week 1 Tuesday spot of the Lectures table. You may need to reload your page in order to see it. That link will take you to a YouTube live stream where I will deliver the lecture. You will be able to ask questions during the lecture via the comments.
To start with we will be using certain technologies. If anyone can’t access Google Sheets or YouTube, please contact me via the course forum or e-mail the course e-mail and I’ll adapt the course to ensure accessibility.
Under the Lectures, Tutes and Labs tab, I've uploaded the slides, tutorial work and lab work for week 1. Especially in the first two weeks, if I don't cover all the required material before your tutorial, don't worry. Remember that the lab work is only due the following week. From week 3 I expect students to be able to complete their lab work before their lab each week.
I'm looking forward to meeting you all tomorrow.
Sim.
Hi everyone,
Welcome to The Art of Computing for term 2 2021! First of all, I'm posting this notice to introduce myself. I'm Sim, the lecturer for the course. This is my first term lecturing this course, so there may be some hiccups along the way - I appreciate your patience with those.
If you're reading this in an email, you can access the course website by clicking here . You may wish to bookmark it. There's not much there now, but more will be added over this week. Especially keep an eye on the "Online Classes" tab for how to attend lectures, tutorials and labs, and the "Course Work" tab for content as I release it.
The second reason I'm posting this notice is I don't know very much about you. This course attracts students from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Some of this is reflected in the information the university gives me, like what program you're enrolled in, but most of it I don't know, like why you're doing this course. Because of this, I would ask you all to complete a survey. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes, but it will help me learn more about you and what you hope to get out of this course.
