UNSW is currently considering changing its semesters from:
-
Semester 1: March-June, Semester 2: July-November
-
12/13 teaching weeks, 1 week mid-semester break, 4 courses/semester
to
-
Term 1: February-May, Term 2: June-August, Term 3: September-November
-
10 teaching weeks, no mid-semester break, 3 courses/semester
In both cases, the exam period involves 1 week stuvac, 2-3 weeks of exams.
Summer semester would still exist, but would be slightly shorter under the three term model.
The advantages of three terms
-
potentially complete degree in slightly less than 3/4 years
-
take a semester off for work experience or study abroad
-
take some semesters with only 2 courses to work half-time
This poll has responses from 313 out of 451
course users - a 69.4%
completion rate.
