Dear Students,
Your assignment and lab total marks are released. You can check them via webcms -> grades (the button beside your name) -> give (login with your zID), and then you will see the "assign" and "LabTotal" fields.
If you have any issues with those marks, please email our course email (cs3331@cse.unsw.edu.au) or directly email your allocated tutor.
Good luck!
The final exam is only 2 days away. It will start at 1:45pm on Monday 21 August within the Inspera platform .
An important reminder:
please be aware that you won't have the opportunity to engage with your lecturer or tutor throughout the examination period. Should any concerns arise during the exam, it will be necessary for you to reach out to the designated exam authority using the contact information provided to you on Inspera on the respective day.
The Ed forum will be switched to the
Read
Only
mode from Monday.
Here are a few pieces of advice, even if they may seem rather obvious:
Good luck, everyone!
The current rate of completion is only 40%. Thank you very much to those who have completed the survey.
Those who are yet to complete the survey, please spare a few minutes and complete them ASAP before it closes in 48 hours (10 August is the last day to complete). Your input is highly valued and appreciated.
Mahbub
Your Lecturer
Great news! We have successfully concluded all the lectures for this term! Additionally, we have released detailed information about the final exam, including a set of sample questions and solutions.
However, the disappointing news is that the completion rate for the MyExperience surveys is currently only at 30%. To all students, I strongly urge you to take just 10 minutes of your time and complete the survey as soon as possible. The final deadline for submission is 10 August, which means there are only 5 days left.
While preparing for the final exam, please make use of the Ed forum, where you can find valuable resources and discussions. Moreover, feel free to attend any of the online consultation sessions that will be conducted by the lecturer in the next two weeks.
Wishing you the best in your preparations for the final exam!
I would like to extend my thanks to those who have already completed their MyExperience survey. However, I must mention that the current completion rate stands at only 12%. Therefore, I encourage each and every one of you to take a few moments and complete the survey as soon as possible. Your input, especially the written feedback, is invaluable for us to reflect on our teaching methods and make further improvements.
Moving on to our academic progress, we have successfully completed Week 9, and the assignment deadline has now passed. I am pleased to note that most of you managed to submit your assignments on time, and I hope you enjoyed the hands-on experience of engaging in practical work. Our team will work diligently to complete the marking process by the end of Week 10.
As we enter the final week of this term, Week 10, we will cover the topic of Wireless Networking. The lecture notes are already available on WebCMS for your reference.
Additionally, during Week 10, I will take some time to recap the course and discuss important details regarding the final exam. I want to inform you that the final exam will be administered in the Inspera platform online, in remote mode (without invigilation), and will be an open book exam. In preparation for the final exam, I plan to open a few special consultation hours, providing an opportunity for anyone to discuss any matters related to the exam. More specific details about the final exam and the consultation hours will be released in the coming week.
I hope you all have an enjoyable remainder of the weekend, and I look forward to meeting you in the upcoming lecture on Monday.
Dear Students,
Update: We have fixed the disk quota issue, and now you can submit your Lab5. The deadline is extended to Thursday 10am.
We have received numerous emails regarding issues with the submission of Lab5, apparently caused by exceeded disk quota. To accommodate for this inconvenience, we grant all students a 48-hour extension for Lab5.
We are currently working diligently to rectify this issue and it may take some time. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter. Thank you.
Thanks to all of you who have completed myExperience so far. If you haven’t yet participated, you can find the myExperience link on your Moodle course page or look for the link in your student email.
Your honest and constructive thoughts are valued, and help not only students taking this course, but myself and teaching staff across UNSW to create positive changes in their courses moving forward. Your thoughts also make a difference for the next group of students taking these courses, just as thoughts from students taking courses you plan to take make a difference for you.
Please know that myExperience is confidential and your identity is not included in reports. Results of the survey are not made available until your course results are released.

Great to have completed the first week of the term. We are about to start Week 2 and would like to remind you of few things:
Labs will start from this week. Make sure you attend the correct lab, the lab slot you are enrolled in, and establish a line of communication with your tutor. Stay in touch with your tutor throughout the term regarding all your labs.
In Week-2 lectures, we will learn the famous layering concept and the layering architecture that underpin computer networking and the Internet. We will make a start with the Application Layer and try to cover HTTP and Email in this week.
You are highly encouraged to attend the lectures in-person and shape the interactions and engagements that go on in such face-to-face teaching. In case you miss the in-person lectures, video recordings of lectures are available from Echo360 but you will have to be logged into Moodle to access them. We are also trying to get the Youtube channel going so you can soon access the lectures directly from Youtube.
We are developing the assignment specs for you, which is expected to be released later next week.
