  • Week 10: Project work, Final Project Demo and MyExperience

    1. There will be no lecture in Week 10. However, the tutors and I will be available during the scheduled lab and lecture times, respectively, to answer any last-minute questions about your projects.
    2. The final project demo will be on 11/08/26 (Tuesday).
      • If you have any special requirements on the demo time slot, please send us an email before COB, 05/08/26, Wednesday as we aim to release the demo schedule on Thursday, 06/08/26.
      • If you will hang out with us during lunch time, Please enter your Dietary option before COB, 05/08/26.
    3. Thanks to all of you who have completed myExperience so far. If you haven’t yet participated, you can find the myExperience link on your Moodle course page or look for the link in your student email.Your honest and constructive thoughts are valued, and help not only students taking this course, but myself and teaching staff across UNSW to create positive changes in their courses moving forward. Your thoughts also make a difference for the next group of students taking these courses, just as thoughts from students taking courses you plan to take make a difference for you. Please know that myExperience is confidential and your identity is not included in reports. Results of the survey are not made available until your course results are released.
    4. To encourage the participatory rates for MyExperience. We will provide bonus marks for participation with the following equation, i.e., 0.25 mark if MyExperience return rate more than 25%, 0.5 mark if MyExperience return rate is more than 50%, 0.75 mark if MyExperience return rate is more than 75%, 1 mark if MyExperience return rate is 100%. We have just over 10% return rate currently.
    5. The Peer Assessment for your group development project is now open on Moodle . 1) Open the "Project Peer Assessment" module. 2) If prompted to make a submission, enter brief sample text such as “Hello.” 3) Assess each teammate based on their contributions to the project, including system design, implementation, testing, documentation, and related project-management tasks. If contributions were uneven, please provide a detailed justification for your assessment. 4) Submit your peer assessment by COB, Tuesday, 12/08/26. Only assessments submitted by the deadline will be considered for individual grade adjustments.


  • Course Consultation — Venue Change (29 July 2026)

    Please note that the course consultation on 29 July 2026 will be held in G02, K17 , rather than Room 606, K17 , due to a timetable clash. The time remains unchanged: 13:00–13:55 .


  • Week 9: Guest lectures and recap

    • We will have two existing guest lectures from CSIRO and EasyIoT respectively this week. As discussed last week, we will provide bonus marks for participation with 0.5 mark for each guest lecture, and will distribute check-in sheets in the lectures to collect attendance rates, and hope to see you there. I will also conclude the course at the end of Wednesday's lecture.
    • ProblemSet is due at 17:00, Friday. Labs and consultation are run as usual. Please attend them if you need help/clarification etc. for the ProblemSet (and projects).
    • Team UrbanIoT has requested permission to collect occupancy data for their project during this Wednesday’s lecture. We generally aim to support such project activities. However, if you have any concerns, please email the course account or submit them via the Anonymous Feedback form by COB, Tuesday, 28 July 2026.
    • The final project demo will be on 11/08/26 (Tuesday).
      • The marking rubrics for both demo and report have been released.
      • If you have any special requirements on the demo time slot, please send us an email before COB, 05/08/26, Wednesday since we aim to release the demo schedule on Thursday, 06/08/26.
      • If you will hang out with us during lunch time, Please enter your Dietary option before COB 05/08/26.

  • Guest lectures next week

    • Next week, we will host two exciting guest lectures: one from CSIRO—the Australian Government’s scientific research agency, which leads a starfish and ecosystem-monitoring project on the Great Barrier Reef—and another from EasyIoT, a local IoT start-up.
    • To encourage participation, students will receive 0.5 bonus marks for attending each guest lecture. Attendance will be recorded using check-in sheets distributed during the lectures.

  • Week 8: Project Progress Presentation

    • This week, we will be conducting a Proposal Progress Presentation . In line with the initial proposal presentation, we expect each team member to participate in presenting. Additionally, we have introduced a new Google Form, accessible via the link provided on the webpage above, to facilitate the collection of peer evaluations (one submission per team is required). Please ensure to submit your progress report by Friday; again, we require one submission per team.
    • Please note that while there will be no new lab materials, your tutors will remain available during lab hours from Weeks 8 to 10 to mark to mark your lab exercise and assist you with your projects and Problem Sets .

  • Week 5: Project Proposal Presentation

    • We will have proposal presentation this week (each group will have a maximum of 10 minutes' presentation time and please stick to the time limit). Note that every team member is expected to present.     • Lab 3 demo and submission due this week, and Lab 4 will be on BLE radio ranging (a primitive of localisation).

    • The tentative schedule for the project proposal presentations is available here . Please note that every member of each group is expected to present, and all groups should adhere strictly to the allocated presentation time.
    • For the group peer assessment, please submit only one response per group via the provided Google Form. The submitted scores should represent the group's collective evaluation (e.g., an agreed or averaged score), rather than separate submissions from individual group members. You may skip the assessment for your own group.
    • If, for any reason, you wish to provide individual evaluations for presenters within a group, please include them in the Comments field of the Google Form.

  • Group Selection and Project Preference Reminder

    Hi all,

    • Currently, six students enrolled in the course are not yet members of a project group. If you are one of them, please join a group from this page as soon as possible. Please select a group with fewer than five members.
    • There are also two groups that have not submitted their project preferences. If your group is one of them, please submit your preferences using the provided example templates ( Template A or Template B ).
    • Deadline: All outstanding group registrations and project preference submissions must be completed by COB today . We will be finalising project allocations this week, and any student or group that has not completed the required steps will be assigned to a group or project at random.

  • Week 3: MQTT, Coap, and Cloud, Project

    • Lecture slides are available.
    • Project groups and topics will be finalised this week. If you don't have a group or your group is missing members, please come to the lecture today and we will try to match you.
    • In the group page , please make your group visible. If you haven't done so, please express your preference by giving your top-3 projects a score of 1, 2 and 3 where ‘1’ means a project that you most want to do and ‘3 ’ means a project that you least want to do. We will assign the "orphan" students to random groups with random projects later this week.
    • Lab 1 demo and submission due this week. Lab 2 will be on Low Power Communications (BLE).

  • Week 2: Phy, MAC, Link, Routing, labs and project specification

  • Arduino Collection (for Monday labs only)

    As Week 2 Monday (08/06) falls on a public holiday, students in the Monday labs who would like to get a head start may collect their Arduino on Wednesday (10/06) from 4–5 pm or Thursday (11/06) from 3–4 pm at Level 4, CSE Building (K-17). Please email the tutors beforehand. Alternatively, students may collect it at their first lab in Week 3 (15/06).

  • Welcome to COMP6733 26T2

    • The lectures are currently scheduled in H13 Lawrence East M032 on Mondays and Wednesdays. We’re looking forward to meeting you all!
    • In the labs , we will be working with special devices such as the Arduino Nano with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). These devices will be distributed during the first lab session in Week 2, which will be held on campus. Please note that labs will commence in Week 2 rather than Week 1.
      • As 8/6 is a public holiday, students enrolled in Monday's lab sessions may arrange to collect their Arduino from their tutors during Week 1. Please contact your tutor directly to make arrangements.
    • Before Monday, please take a few minutes to complete this short Prior Knowledge survey when you have a chance.
