Hi everyone,
For those that were unable to attend lab in Week 10, we will be running a few makeup labs in Week 11. The current lab times are Tuesday 12-2pm at J17 306 Sitar and Tuesday 12-2 pm at J17 304 Oboe .
These will be solely dedicated to providing you with experience using the exam environment and are not intended for marking off labs. Additional labs have been booked but we are waiting for a response, so stay tuned for more.
Best of luck with your exam studies.
Hi everyone,
The final live coding session for the term is on today. You’ll be working through a couple of exercises that are similar to what you’ll get in the final exam. There will be a focus on numpy questions in this session.
As always, the session will be held in Matthews 230 from 1-2pm today and you can find the files you’ll be using in Callum’s forum post.
See you there!
In today's last lecture , we will review the course and provide information regarding your final exam . If you have any queries or need clarifications, we can address them in today's lecture. There will be no lecture on Wednesday.
Please attend the Week-10 lab ; it offers information about your final exam environment and practice questions. If your lab is on Friday (a public holiday), you can attend an alternative lab. However, please make sure that there are places available by sending an email to the respective tutor. We are also planning to offer additional labs in Week 11 for those who may have missed the Week 10 lab. We will post further information on this in a day or two.
A gentle reminder: Assignment 2 and Self-directed lab 2 are due at 5 pm Friday, 25 April. If you need help, don't hesitate to attend a help session or post your questions on the Ed forum.
See you today at 2 pm!

Hi everyone,
The live coding session returns today! Callum will be working through a complicated numpy problem which will help you prepare for the final exam, and probably your assignment too.
As always, the session will be held in Matthews 230 from 1-2pm today and you can find the files you’ll be using in Callum’s forum post.
See you there!
Hi everyone, hope your studies are going well.
The regular Friday labs will not be held in Week 9 and 10 as a result of public holidays - you may have already seen this reflected on your timetable. For those who need to get a lab marked off, please use the Timetable page on the WebCMS sidebar to find a class you are able to attend and contact the tutor via email to ask if you may attend for the next two weeks.
The top name in any class is the tutor: click their name and you will be able to see an email which you can then contact.
You may need to email multiple tutors
as some classes are already at capacity.
Week 10's lab is intended to let you get to grips with the exam environment, so we plan on holding additional labs in Week 11 for those who cannot reschedule. More information on this will come out next week.
Online module on Matlab with Link to Self-Directed Lab 2 is now available. Please read the instructions, you need to watch the required videos before you attempt the following exercises.
You should have received an email from "Matlab Grader" to complete Self-Directed Lab 2 exercises. Please check your mail box(s) and look for an email like the following (or something similar), follow the link and complete the exercises before the deadline.
Hi everyone,
If you haven't already noticed, assignment 2 is now available on the WebCMS sidebar.
The live coding session returns today where Callum will be working through a very interesting simulation. Most of you are likely to make use of simulations in Python or other software during the rest of your degree and as such I highly encourage you to attend to get a feel for the topic.
As always, the session will be held in Mathews 230 from 1-2pm. The files can be found on Callum's Ed forum post.
Looking forward to seeing you there :)
Hi everyone,
A clarification has been made to Assignment 1 regarding incomplete data, please see the assignment page for details.
Best of luck with completing the assignment.
Hi everyone,
I hope you all enjoyed flex week and had a chance to relax at least a little bit.
The live coding session returns today. Callum will be going through some numpy data processing and analysis that will be very helpful for the rest of the course. As always, the session will be held in Matthews 230 from 1-2pm today and you can find the files you’ll be using in Callum’s forum post.
See you there!
The Self-Directed Lab 1: Online Module on Spreadsheets is now available. You can find it under "Week 5" in the "Labs" section. This self-directed lab is due by 5 PM on Wednesday of Week 08. All necessary instructions for getting started and submitting your work are provided on the respective pages.

This is the final week before the Flexible Week, so hang in there - your well-deserved break is just around the corner!
Hi everyone, hope your studies are going well.
We have released the recording for this week's Live Coding Session on the Assignment 1 page as Callum has done a great job of introducing the assignment in case you aren't sure where to start. Help sessions are also available for anyone that wishes to receive help and will run until Week 10.
Hi everyone,
The live coding session is on again at 1pm today. This week Callum will go through how to get started on the assignment, including how to test your code. If there is time, the session will also go over some basic data analysis techniques.
See you then!
Hi everyone,
The live coding session is on again at 1pm today.
This week will focus on dealing with lists and for loops, including a fun exercise about searching for prime numbers.
Please see Callum’s post on the Ed forum for the files you’ll be using this week.
See you then!
Assignment 1 is now available. You can find the web link in the left panel of the course webpage. We discussed Assignment 1 in detail during the first hour of Tuesday's lecture . If you missed it, please watch the recording. If you need further clarification, feel free to ask your lab tutor , attend a Help session , or post on the Ed forum .
Hey everyone,
Help sessions have been timetabled and are starting next week! You can find the timetable on the sidebar of WebCMS3.
These will be in-person sessions that allow you to request help from a tutor on anything course-related, such as home computing, coursework feedback or help with an assignment. Everyone is free to attend whenever they wish, and I would highly encourage attending earlier sessions rather than later as they can get very busy close to assignment deadlines.
Hey everyone,
The live coding session will be returning at 1-2pm today!
Last week you learned a fundamental programming concept, that being control structures. This week we will be working through some problems where you can put this into practice.
Please see Callum’s post on the Ed forum for the files for this week’s session.
These sessions will continue running for the entire term except for flexibility week.
Hey everyone,
The first live coding session will be taking place 1-2pm in Mathews 230 today !
This week the session will be focused on using variables and performing calculations in Python, particularly those involving the operators that may be less familiar to you.
Please see Callum’s post on the Ed forum for the files for this week’s session.
Looking forward to seeing you there!

Hey everyone,
We will soon be holding our first live coding session of the term! These will be interactive sessions where you will be able to reinforce lecture content from the past week by solving computational and coding problems under the guidance of an experienced tutor. These questions will be set out similar to exam and assignment problems and will be good practice for the upcoming assessments as well as being a great opportunity to ask any additional questions that you may have.
Callum will be running live coding sessions in-person on Wednesdays from 1-2pm in-person at Mathews 230 every week from Week 2 onwards except for Week 6.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
Hey everyone!
Just a reminder that all questions should be asked on our course forum over at Ed, where every student and tutor will have the ability to answer your question. We do not monitor WebCMS3's forums.
If you're wondering how to access the Ed forum, check the Course Forum entry on the sidebar for instructions.
Our first lecture is today (18 Feb) at 2 pm in Rex Vowels Theatre. If you are attending it online, the required information is available at Online Lectures/Labs .
Please note that the class webpage for ENGG1811 is at https://webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/ENGG1811/25T1/ .
