  • Final Portfolio submission | SENG2021

Posted by Armin Chitizadeh Sunday 23 April 2023, 10:23:59 PM.

Some important updates for Portfolio Submission - please read carefully.

    Submission Link:
For the final portfolio, you will need to submit to the link below (link can also be found in the spec).

    • Submit a link to your Confluence pages via the form below which must be accessible by tutors (don’t lock the documents). If you are not using Confluence for your portfolio you can ignore this section.
    • Export your Confluence pages and upload them as a single PDF via the form below. This is a backup in case your links don't work. If you are not using Confluence for your portfolio you can upload here.
    • Your Confluence blogs must also be accessible by tutors (don’t lock the documents).

You must also show evidence of timely delivery of peer feedback in your Project & Time Management portfolio.

    Submit your final portfolio here

Update on exporting confluence into pdf:
We have noticed some students are facing an issue with exporting their confluence into pdf file. For this reason we extended the deadline by one day. The new deadline is now on Wednesday week11 1pm . Hopefully, the issue will be resolved by Monday. But if it does not, a solution suggested by some students is to export it to word and then from word export it to pdf.

  • sprint1 marks are now ready and will be emailed to you shortly | marks are decimal numbers

Posted by Armin Chitizadeh Saturday 18 March 2023, 10:15:50 PM, last modified Saturday 18 March 2023, 10:33:54 PM.

    Dear students,

Your marks for sprint1 are now available. You should have received feedback from your mentors on your sprint1.

In the past, mentors had to share marks with each student individually, but this year, I created a kind of "script" that emails grades directly to each student. It speeds up the process and makes it easier for our mentors. However, there may be a slight delay of a few minutes. If you do not receive your mark via email by the end of Sunday, please fill out the following form. If there is any issue with your auto-generated email, please fill out the form and explain the issue so we can resolve it.
It is normal if your mark is a decimal number with relatively long fractional part. We tried to make it to be out of 100.

  • GitHub & Deployment for Sprint 3

Posted by Nick Patrikeos 🐾 Thursday 16 March 2023, 07:36:30 AM.

    Hi everyone,

Well done on completing Sprint 2 - the Sprint 3 spec is up now for you to view.

You can create your team's frontend repo in Github here .

On AWS, you may only use Elasticbeanstalk (EBS) instances for deployment . If you create resources that are not an EBS instances, we will deactivate your account within 12 hours. Many resources in AWS are not free tier (e.g. Transfer Family) and will charge us. All you need to deploy your backend API and frontend is a single EBS instance.

If you want to setup customised infrastructure, you're welcome to do so on your own AWS account , where you'll need to provide your own credit card details.

For Sprint 3, you will need to serve your frontend as a static bundle in the same EBS instance as your backend ; this is to again manage costs on AWS. Grace has put together an excellent page with guidance on how to deploy your frontend .

Post on the forum if you have any questions.

  • Deployment Platform

Posted by Nick Patrikeos 🐾 Saturday 04 March 2023, 11:49:27 AM, last modified Saturday 04 March 2023, 11:49:55 AM.

    Hi everyone,

There's been a bit of confusion around the deployment platform, which we apologise for.

    Two important things:

    1. If you decided to use a deployment provider that's not AWS Elasticbeanstalk (e.g. Heroku) in Sprint 1 and want to stick with this, that's completely OK. However, we won't be able to guarantee support for it.
    2. If you are using AWS please post on the forum as we will give you access to a SENG2021 AWS account you can use to deploy your services. This means you don't have to sign up for an AWS account and put in any credit card information (which we want to avoid).

Thanks for your patience - please post on the forum if you have further questions.

  • Accessing your Team's GitHub Repo

Posted by Nick Patrikeos 🐾 Wednesday 01 March 2023, 05:11:10 PM.

    Hi everyone,

To access your team's GitHub repo, you will need to firstly setup GitHub with UNSW to give you access via SSO, then join your team's GitHub repo.

Link your zID to GitHub and establish your GitHub identity

If you do not want your personal GitHub profile linked to UNSW SSO please make a seperate account for the course .

    1. Open https://myapplications.microsoft.com
    2. Towards the top right of the page, there will be a drop down menu with an option "+ Request New Apps" - click on this. Alternatively try this URL: https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/r#/addApplications
    3. Click on "GitHub.com" and press "Add"

You will return to the list of available apps, but will need to wait for up to 40 minutes before provisioning is complete - when GitHub.com appears on your list of apps on https://myapps.microsoft.com , you can continue (you may need to refresh your browser).
    4. Click on GitHub Enterprise Cloud - cse-teaching-unsw - NOT unsw-edu-au
    5. You will see "Single sign-on to UNSW Sydney", press the green "continue" button to validate your UNSW identity with GitHub.
    6. GitHub requires you to maintain a local account and password as well as verifying your UNSW identity. You can create a new GitHub identity, or sign in with an existing identity. In either case, because you've navigated from myapps and validated your UNSW identity, you will be connected to the UNSW GitHub organisation.

Once you've done this, access the following link to log onto GitHub Classroom:

    https://classroom.github.com/a/8L-P_BFA

    1. Select your name from the list of students (if your name is not there please post on the forum)
    2. If you are the first person in your team to login , create your team's repo - your repo name should be of the form class code + '-' + group name + '-' + creation/validation/storage/sending/receiving/rendering + '-' + api</strong> e.g. f 10a-alpha-validation-api
    3. If you are not the first person in your team to login, select your team's repo.
    4. Authenticate with SSO to access the teaching space.
    5. Done!

Post on the forum if you have any problems.

  • Amazon lecture: New place , is not recorded, 4pm today! | ed is set up now

Posted by Armin Chitizadeh Wednesday 01 March 2023, 03:34:54 PM.

    Dear students,

One quick reminder, today's guest lecture by Amazon will be live streamed on echo360 but will not be recorded as their request. The in-person location for this lecture only is changed to - K-F13-G09 Science Theatre 4pm today .
    See you all soon!

Many of you requested to have an ed forum. To answer your request, we created an ed forum to this course. Please use the ed forum for your technical questions. Your mentor should be your main point of contact. For example, if it is related to your API category, the best person to answer your question is your mentor as each mentor is working on a unique API category.

If it is related to me, the course admin, I am much faster on answering question through email.

    se2021@cse.unsw.edu.au

I sent an invite to your zid@unsw.edu.au email address.

Feel free to help your fellow students if you see a team is facing an issue which you have already solved it in your own team.

    Kind regards,

    Armin

    Dear students,

Lectures on Week 2 Thursday, 23rd of Feb, are confirmed. It will be happen on the same lecture theatre as before. Here is the list of topics and presenters:

    • Thu 2.1 by Nick on Agile Project Management Part2
    • Thu 2.2 by Armin on Swagger

We have one comment from a student that Nick’s lecture on Agile Project Management part 1 was similar to what was already covered in comp1531. Thanks for letting us know. The reason for the similarity is that Nick only covered the first part of his lecture. This second part will cover the topic in more depth.

swagger is a set of open-source tools built around the OpenAPI specification that can help you design, build, document and consume rest apis.

    See you all tomorrow.

  • UNSW Redback Racing team asked us to share their current recruitment interest.

Posted by Armin Chitizadeh Tuesday 14 February 2023, 11:11:47 AM.

    Dear students,

UNSW Redback Racing team asked us to share their current recruitment interest. You can find their message below:

    "

    Hello,

My name is Salal, I am a 4th-year student studying Mechatronic Engineering / Computer Science at UNSW. I am a member of the 2023 Internal Relations team for the university’s motorsport team UNSW Redback Racing.

On behalf of the team, I want to share our current recruitment interest for students within SENG2021.

As a student-led project, we have 6 Technical departments (Chassis, Aerodynamics & Cooling, EV Mechanics & Driveline, Suspension & Brakes, Electrics, Autonomous Systems, and Data Acquisition). Through these departments, students will be given the opportunity and hands-on experience to work on a project centred around team morale with the common goal to build a physical product: UNSW’s first all-electric high-performance formula car.

At Redback Racing we offer students:

·Opportunities to participate in an exciting opportunity in the world of electric motor racing

·Ability to collaborate creatively in a team, working and communicating with students from different faculties (engineers and business students) with a genuine bond and excite towards a student project with a tangible product

·Invitation to Redback Track Days, industry workshops, and exclusive entry to our on-campus team lab (following all COVID guidelines)

As a competitive racing team, we travel interstate for competitions where we also compete in case competitions. For those who have an interest in cars and formula racing, these events are a rare and valuable experience which we believe would add to your students’ overall university experience.

  • Welcome to SENG2021, Requirements & Design Workshop for 2023 Term1.

Posted by Armin Chitizadeh Friday 10 February 2023, 11:33:43 PM, last modified Sunday 12 February 2023, 07:28:09 PM.

    Hello everyone!

Welcome to SENG2021, Requirements & Design Workshop for 2023 Term1!

We will give a more formal overview and introduction on week1 and leave you to enjoy the last days of your holidays for now :) but we suggest you have a read of the Course Outline which gives an in-depth overview of the course structure, outcomes and assessment.

To help both you and us with planning, there are a few points we want to highlight early:

    1. Class Structure + Group Formation

The course is centred around a group software development project, completed in groups of 4 - 5 .

It's a requirement that your group is comprised of people enrolled in the same tutorial time slot . If for any reason you need to form a team across more than one tutorial, please email us se2021@cse.unsw.edu.au .

In Week 1, you will need to be present for the 2 hours your class is scheduled for

The Week 1 class time will give you a chance to get to know your peers and find people to form a group, and groups will be formed during that time.

From Week 2 onwards, you will have a 20 minute project check-in with your tutor during your timetabled weekly tutorial time slot.

    2. If you are overseas and can not be in Sydney on Week1

In 2023, UNSW is expecting all students to attend in-person classes. For this reason we only have official in-person tutorial sessions. However, we understand some students might not be able to come to Sydney at the start of term1 2023. To solve this issue, we created a form for students who are overseas at the moment to fill. With this form we can help students who are overseas to form teams. If you are overseas please fill the form below:

    3. Lectures will be in-person this year! We will live stream them too.

Lectures will be held in person in the Webster Theatre B (K-G15-290) . We don't have lectures every week - we will let you know prior to the week ahead which days we have lectures.

We would love it if you please please please all came to the lectures in person! For students who can not, we are setting up a platform so you can watch it live. More info on how to watch lectures live will be released soon.

    4. For any question related to the project, feel free to ask your mentor, tutor. For anything else, feel free to email us

For any question related to the project, feel free to ask your mentor, tutor. For anything else, feel free to email us se2021@cse.unsw.edu.au . The webCMS forum in this course will not be monitored. We keep it open for students to communicate freely as a community. I have created a forum post called "Fun Summer". You can access it from the menu on the left. Feel free to introduce yourself in there and post about something that you did during the summer break.

We're looking forward to what's going to be a great term ahead!

    Fethi and Armin
