5 minutes left of the exam.
This is a reminder to submit your exam. Even if you haven't finished all the questions.
And afterwards, I wish you all an enjoyable summer break.
Time: 9am-12pm
Exam paper and files can be found here . (The link will work from about 8:55am.)
Remember to abide by UNSW's student code of conduct (which can be found here ).
Sim will be available throughout the exam:Check the forum regularly for any announcements or clarifications regarding the exam.
Good luck everyone!!
Hi everyone,
I hope your exams are going well.
I've just released your implementation grades.
You should now have all you grades from all the coursework of the term available to you. If any grades are missing or seem inaccurate, please contact myself or your tutor.
All the best for Friday!
Sim.
Everyone who submitted a practice exam, should now have received a copy of their exam via e-mail. Please double-check that it is in fact what you intended to submit.
Due to the extremely low number of students who submitted the practice exam, I will be available to respond to requests to check practice exam submissions between now and the 3rd of December, but please don't leave it too late - give me plenty of time to reply to you.
All the best,
Sim.
This notice is to confirm the contents of the exam.
Exam Content:
The following list is not exhaustive. All content covered in the course, may be assessed in the exam, except for the topics explicitly named in the lower part of this notice under "There will not be".
Lab exercises, Kahoots, the revision exercises from throughout the course, and the practice exam are a good indication of the kinds of questions which will be in the exam.
There will not be:
Restrictions:
Please fill out the my experience survey, available through Moodle. It is a formal approach to the feedback you've given me throughout the term and is a way for you to say whether or not COMP1010 should be kept running, and to say whether or not myself and your tutor are good at our jobs. Please tell CSE what you think.
Cheers,
Sim.
You're expected to show up on time for your whole hour timeslot.
Failure to show up for your demonstration may impact your implementation grade.

Hi everyone,
I've just made what I'm hoping will be the final changes to the demonstration times for tomorrow. In any case, please check the spreadsheet at your assigned time to check that you haven't been moved to a different Zoom location.
All the best for tonight and tomorrow!
Sim.
Hi everyone,
For the submission tonight, please do a test submission asap (if you haven't already submitted). There is a size limit on the submission and I'm reluctant to change that. If you have trouble with submitting (for any reason, but specifically to do with this) contact me asap and I'll help you figure out what needs submitting and what doesn't.
Cheers :)
Hi everyone,
As discussed, here are the links to all the Kahoots that we've run through together throughout the term. These questions are a good starting point to check your understanding of some of the core concepts covered in this course, as well as being a fun way to study!

The demonstration times for Friday have been finalised. Zoom links will be added to the document (linked below) by Friday morning.
If there is any problem with your assigned time, it is your responsibility to contact me asap (via course forum or cs1010@cse.unsw.edu.au) to arrange a change.
I have also assigned everyone two projects to critique for their Feedback assignment. It was too much work to do this anonymously. Students may still request to see the feedback they received and they will get a culmination of both their reviews and the assessor's comments but with no way to identify what feedback is from which specific individual.
Please remember that while your demonstration is not worth any marks, failure to do a demonstration at all may have a negative impact your Implementation mark.
Demonstration times: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1x8mJcnLnoZ...
I will be unavailable until Monday morning. (I won't be able to see/respond to form posts or e-mail.)
For downloading the exam paper and submitting, if it doesn't work, try a different browser. (It doesn't work in Chrome for me, but Safari does. I expect Firefox would too.) Remember which browser you use for the practice exam, and use the same one for the final exam.
I've released the practice exam. It can be found in the left-hand panel on the course website, or here .
It is an opportunity to practice your skills as well as ensure you know how to download and submit the final exam.
I will start going through how to do some of the questions in the practice exam in lectures on Friday week 9 and Tuesday week 10 if that's what students want.
Now the grades have been uploaded with late penalties applied.
The marks have now been update in your grade book.
These are the raw marks and haven't had any late penalties applied. I will do that later today.
You should've received an e-mail with your proposal feedback.
I've been having trouble uploading your grades into the system, so don't worry if they're not showing up at this point. I will announce again here when that's complete.
Would you rather learn to make a game like Flappy Bird which runs on your computer (not in the web browser) using PyGame? Or would you rather learn how to store and retrieve data from databases (even using Flask)?
Let me know now, so I can make it happen!! :)
Please fill this out asap: https://webcms3.cse.unsw.edu.au/COMP1010/21T3/acti...
1. If your name does not appear here please book a time using this form ASAP so I can finalise the demonstration timetable.
2. If you have not filled in this form by the end of week 7 I will assume you are doing the project on your own (and not in a pair).
Of the people who voted, most people wanted 2 or 4 hours of revision.
Most people wanted new programming activities, some people wanted me to go through lab solutions.
So:
Tuesday Lecture: create new project (analysing Musk's tweets, generating our own ones to look like his, making a website where people can try tell the difference between real ones and fake ones)
Friday Lecture:
going through lab questions weeks 2-4, (and then continuing with Tuesday's project if there's time)
Update: There will be no lecture on Friday. Instead, you may submit questions from the labs you'd like me to do video walkthroughs of, here . I'll also be available for consultations on Thursday this week. To book a time on Thursday or for another time (if Thursday doesn't suit you), post a comment here . (Remember that you can post these requests anonymously if you'd like. That way, I will see your name, but no other student will.)
Reminder: Should anything we do in these lectures be 'new material', I will teach it officially in week 7.
I've posted polls asking:
If you are using Echo360 for lecture recordings, please let me know as soon as possible. Otherwise I won't continue to upload my lecture videos there.
Hi everyone,
I will be available 1pm-2pm on Friday in the lecture's Zoom link, to approve project proposals.
If you'd like me to look over your proposal and approve your idea, you will need to have completed the following sections of the proposal:
Regards,
Sim.
I have just uploaded the week 4 lab work.
The week 4 lab is quite long, and much of part a is quite straight-forward revision and consolidation from the lectures. For this reason I recommend having part a ready to submit in your week 4 lab and only leaving part b to submit in your week 5 lab.
You will not be penalised for submitting it all in week 5, but you may find you fall a bit behind in the course as a result.
Hi everyone,
Until now, Colab has allowed us to get started programming in Python very quickly. Starting next week we will be programming on our own computers (rather than in the browser) in order to start making web applications.
To enable this, I've linked instructions for how to install Python and other software on your computer . Please try and complete these before Tuesday's lecture (at the latest, in time for your lab next week).
I hope you all have a great weekend.
Sim.
Hi everyone,
Welcome to COMP1010, The Art of Computing for term 3 2021! First of all, I'm posting this notice to introduce myself. I'm Sim, the lecturer for the course. I enjoy lecturing and computer programming. Your feedback helps me do my job well, so please don't feel shy to speak up about anything that's going well in the course, or things which could be done better.
If you're reading this in an email, you can access the course website by clicking here . You may wish to bookmark it. So far there are some interesting things there, such as:
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. For now, if you reply to this welcome notice on the course website, I'll see it, and in the first lecture you'll learn more about the best way(s) to contact me.
Regards,
Sim.
