Every year, COMP1511 contains students with a wide range of programming backgrounds. We target the material at people with no prior programming background (or at least we try to), but it's handy to have some idea of what the range of experience is.

Use the following guideline for telling us what your level of programming experience is:

  • Novice = I have never programmed before (... don't worry, soon you'll be writing code like a pro)
  • Dabbler = I have written a few pieces of code here and there, but nothing substantial
  • Moderate = I have written 100-1000 lines of code for a piece of software
  • Expert = I have written substantial software systems, possibly publishing in App Store
  • Pro = I have 2 or more years experience writing code in the IT industry (hmmm ... why are you taking this course?)

This poll has responses from 243 out of 516 course users - a 47.09% completion rate.
