  • Alternative Video for Week 6 Lecture

Posted by Alan Blair Tuesday 22 October 2019, 09:46:22 AM.

The sound quality was poor for the first half of this week's lecture recording (until about 1:45) due to a microphone issue. You can use these links to view lecture recordings from 2018 which cover the same material.

    6a. Recurrent Networks
    6b. Language Processing

  • Preparing for the Assignments

Posted by Alexander Long Friday 20 September 2019, 02:21:27 PM, last modified Friday 20 September 2019, 02:21:39 PM.

The first assignment won't be released for 2 weeks, but I thought some students might want to get a head start and begin becoming familiar with PyTorch (the library we will be using for all assignments - version 1.2). Having familiarity with the library will significantly decrease the time it will take you to do the assignments and it is better to learn it slowly.

There are lots of great getting started tutorials online, and its not terribly important which one you do, as long as it's a 1.x version, but I'd recommend the official docs to start ( https://pytorch.org/tutorials/beginner/deep_learni... ). Note that this assumes you are familiar with numpy. If you are not, you should go through (at minimum) the quick-start here ( https://docs.scipy.org/doc/numpy/user/quickstart.h... ).

If you need assistance with working through any of the above, or just getting PyTorch installed and set up, the tutors at the lab sessions will be more than happy to help.

  • Week 1 Lecture Recording

Posted by Alan Blair Wednesday 18 September 2019, 11:14:50 AM, last modified Thursday 19 September 2019, 01:10:39 AM.

Something went wrong with the Echo360 recording for the Week 1 lecture, so I have created videos by editing the audio and lecture slides together, and posted them to TheBox:

    1a. Overview
    1b. Neuroanatomy
    1c. Perceptrons

If you prefer to download the lecture slides and step through them as you listen to the audio from echo360, the alignment is as follows:

    1a. Overview, Slides 1-11 (7:30 to 27:30)
    1b. Neuroanatomy, Slides 1-27 (27:50 to 1:15:50)
    1b. Neuroanatomy, Slides 28-39 (1:28:20 to 2:04:00)
    1c. Perceptrons, Slides 1-10 (2:04:10 to 2:13:30)
Video from Document Camera (2:13:40 to 2:25:30)
    1c. Perceptrons, Slides 11-19 (2:25:50 to 2:43:50)
