Getting Paid (2021 onwards)

Since May 2021, UNSW has introduced a new system for casual payments. This was a big step forward for most of the university, but has made CASTLE users’ lives slightly more complicated.

The general summary of the way you get paid is to follow two steps:

  1. Submit any variations to your pay through CASTLE , not through myUNSW.
  2. When you get an email from myUNSW, approve your paysheet as it stands.

The Payment Process

Payments follow this process:

Day Action
Monday of Week N Start of Fortnight
Wednesday of Week N + 1 (Arbitrary) Cut-off for updates to CASTLE
Monday, Wednesday, Friday of Week N + 2 Emails sent to tutors to verify their timesheet
Wednesday of Week N + 3 Cut-off for timesheet approvals by admin
Thursday (3am) of Week N + 3 Timesheet uploaded for pay Finalisation
Tuesday through Thursday of Week N + 4 Payment for Week N sent out

The Approval Process

  1. Every fortnight, you will receive an email asking you to approve your timesheet. The email will have the title: “ACTION REQUIRED: Review and Submit your timesheet for the completed academic fortnight”. You should click the link in the email.
  2. When you click on the link, sign in if necessary, then choose the “Casual Academic Timesheet” option.
  3. You will now see a list of courses that you are able to be paid for. Rows in green are courses that are recent enough you can have timesheets for them; however not every green row will have pay for you to approve. Click on all the courses you believe you will get paid for this fortnight.
  4. Now, review your hours. If there is an error, contact your admin and edit your hours ON CASTLE . Do not use the form to submit issues, or your pay may be delayed. Press “Submit” (do not choose “Save”), and your hours will be ready for processing. After you submit your timesheet, the admin will not be able to adjust your hours in CTP until after Pay Finalisation . CTP is the portal where admin enter your timesheet hours. Therefore, to increase the probability for adjustments to flow from CASTLE to the current timesheet, submit on the last day (Friday)

Please note: If you press “Save” rather than submit when following step 4, it will ask you for a reviewer. Select Andrew Taylor as your reviewer. Your pay may be delayed as a result.

Tutor Induction

  • Once a term, there is a tutor induction session run.
  • Contains the information in this guide plus additional information and some interactive Q&A sessions

  • Experienced tutors are welcome to tag along
